Alan Pardew and all of his coaching staff have signed an 8 year deal. Derek Lambias says club wants stability like Arsenal and Man Utd. Your thoughts?

For what its worth i think they might just be on to something. Risky but Ashley can afford it and good managers can be seen as an asset just like players. Could just work. Got my support.

What a bizarre move this is!

Not saying it's bad, or good, but it is absolutely baffling to me this one!

Good news I suppose. They want to achieve stability.

So basically if England come knocking it will cost a hell of a lot to get Pards. Well played Mashley

Good news for me. Pardew has proved a very capable manager and overall has done an outstanding job for us so far. Stability! Imagine that.

Am I the only one who would've waited to see how Pards' second season went before signing him up long term?

53% of UK marriages are shorter than Pardew's new contract.

It would have been a much lower percentage but my 38 years of wedded bliss bumped it up a bit.

No, I agree with you, and with 4 years left on his existing deal it seems a bit strange to give him this one.

Of course, contracts mean very little in football anyway.

My immediate thought when Pardew signed his original deal (6 years, was it?) was that for such a long deal, there must have been some clauses giving an easy out for Newcastle if everything went south.

I imagine the new deal removes some of the easy termination clauses in return for a long deal which makes it very unlikely a top team (or England) could poach him. A good deal for both teams.

All speculation, of course. As said previously, contracts don't mean a huge amount in football.

I'm happy enough with it. It's a good statement of intent. We need to get to the stage where we don't chop and change our manager every other year. The comments from dekka saying we are aiming at the man u, arsenal blue print are exactly what we want. Look at moyse at everton. They stuck with him when they were in deep deep **** a few year back and it's payed off. Of course contracts in football don't mean a lot these days but the intent behind such a big deal is there for all to see. Hopefully pardew keeps on going the way he has been. Stability will do us the world of good. The reality of it is, as it stands here and now, nothing has changed. We keep moving forward but pardew has a bigger security blanket than before.

I agree with this. There will be performance related criteria included within the contract with clauses to ensure that the club can get out of the contract if things go tits up. What this is doing is tying up arguably the best english manager (with a future) and that if he was selected for this role in the future (England job) then they will have to pay.

In addition it is protecting the real possibility that a bigger club than us (yes i said it a bigger club deemed) then we are protected also.

The fact is that we are in a great position, financially stable with good young players and tied down stars (including pards) so this is all good for the club. It would be a different story if we where like liverspuds atm.

Grats to Pards and in all honesty gratz to Ashley.

Didn't see that one coming! Good news is always welcome though, Pardew and the staff have been doing a fantastic job since arriving and hopefully it continues for another 8 years. Hopefully it will also convince a couple of players e.g. Tiote, Cabaye, HBA etc to stick with us and help us push onwards and upwards.

Must be some let-outs for an eight-year deal.

Otherwise, it's crazy. Fergie and Wenger apart, there's not many get close to that.

Stability is good and so is thinking long-term, but this is a bit OTT as far as I can see.

All for stability, but 8 years does seem a bit long. Hope I'm proved wrong. Sure Wenger or Ferguson have never had an 8 year contract.
