Pardew holds Enrique hope

    Alan Pardew has revealed he will be making Jose Enrique a 'fantastic offer' and is optimistic about keeping the defender at Newcastle.

    The highly-rated left-back has reportedly been targeted by a number of other clubs, including Liverpool and French side Lyon.

    He has just one year remaining on his current contract and manager Pardew recently admitted it could be difficult to hold on to such an exciting player.

    Pardew is remaining realistic over the chances of Enrique staying at St James' Park, with negotiations over a new deal set to take place next week.

    "We are going to make Jose a very, very good offer and we are hoping he is going to accept it. "

    However, he hopes the 25-year-old will accept Newcastle's proposal and commit his future to the club.

    "We have been waiting to see his representatives, they are due here in the early part of next week," Pardew told the Evening Chronicle.
    His decision

    "We are going to make Jose a very, very good offer and we are hoping he is going to accept it.

    "We are realistic about Jose, because the ball is in his court on that one, not in ours.

    "He will be offered a fantastic contract here, he knows that, but still it is going to be down to his decision. I am still hopeful."

    Pardew accepts that if Enrique does depart it could unsettle his close friends in the squad such as Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez.

    "Of course, but there is nothing we can do about that," said the manager.

    "All we can do is bring the best possible players in."

    "We're offering Enrique to clubs and trying to get the best price, so in the mean time we're going to be doing everything we can to make it look like we want him to stay, this will probably increase his value aswell, OH I DIDNT REALISE THAT BIT, MIKE MIIIIIIIIIIKE!     He's a big part of the team that kept us up and I'd love him to stay, along with Joey and anybody else who's agents might be looking for a few coppers more from.

    Fair do's offering him an awesome contract, but to me, it seems like he wants to go for reasons other than wages.

    It's the only thing the club can do.

    Give him a good offer to extend his contract.

    If he doesn't want to stay then he'll reject it and go.

    Not on bonfire night.

    The party atmosphere dissipates quickly as he's pissed on the bonfire beforehand and it won't light.

    Same with parades.
