Absolutely ludicrous. A few bad results in the next and they'll turn on him quick as a flash. Before their fortunate draw at Everton there were already whispers of unrest. He won't be manager in two year, so will get a lovely pay out to pump straight back into the casino
There wasn't though was there that's something you've just made up I'd be very surprised if MA hadn't stuck a few clauses in their allowing him to get rid if certain objectives aren't fulfilled.
You're probably right about clauses being in the contract. MA might be a twat , but when it comes to business he's nobodys fool. . How many premiership managers today will still be with the same club in 2020? I'm willing to bet not one.
You'd be stupid to think a severance deal wasn't in place in any contract never mind such a lengthy one as already pointed out. Still 8 years ****ing hell!
Seems odd to me. While Pardew has done well, he has not done "8 year extension" well if you know what I mean.
When pards signed, a get out clause was put in his contract by Ashley if he didn't perform, AND his pay was said to be largely performance based. He's not a moron business wise obviously lads, put two and two together for **** sake.
OMG!!!!!!! I don’t think it even healthy to offer someone an 8 year deal in ANY walk of life? I mean, it’s like saying you’re immune from the sack? Even if there are clauses in there, Pardew will still get a healthy bank balance out of this deal and his record as manager EVERYWHERE he has been is 2 canny years followed by a very public fall out with all and sundry and a totally flopped 3rd year? This is his 2nd one now.
Happy it gives us stability but 8 years just seems crazy. Pretty sure there will be a number of performance related clauses in it that if he fails to meet there'll be a bit of compensation but no way he'll get 8 years worth!
Although it does seem a bizarre move, there's no way on earth they won't have covered the compensation side, likely it has a fixed fee for sacking. I don't really get the need for it, in truth. Yes, Pardew has done a very decent job at the club, but I don't think for a second that he'll ever be courted by a bigger club than Newcastle, this is not a dig at the man, more the fact that there aren't many bigger clubs than Newcastle around, and the few that are would be looking for higher profile managers, with proven European pedigree & trophies in the cabinet. I guess it more of a front to show a stable club, with faith in it's staff, and to be fair, that's a smart enough step given the uncertainty around a lot of clubs at present. For me though, it just achieves little, means little, and seems a bit pointless, bordering on daft.
If MO'N had got us fifth or sixth last year, I would have given him as long as he wanted, plus me daughter (if I had one!) x
Surely thats common sense. As in its not clever to put such clauses in, but stupid to omit them. The same goes for any manager really. 8 years is a long long time, I can't get my head around this one.
Think the thinking is that in 8 years Shola will be ready to take over and lead us to the league and CL double in his first season.
