he met Steve McClaren today to discuss some of our targets in the Dutch and German leagues, says the talks were constructive. What do we think of this? He was certainly right about Tiote so boosting our scouting knowledge of these 2 countries can only aid us, plus McLaren will have been watching them for the last 2 seasons whereas our scouts just see a player a few times a year. Sounds like a clever move by us and the extra info can only help our decisions.

I realise I've mis-spelled McClaren in the title btw, but I cant edit it.

    Article:

ALAN PARDEW invited former England manager Steve McClaren to Newcastle United’s training HQ in Benton today in order to get his opinion on some of the Magpies’ summer transfer targets.

Pardew – who has been preparing his side for the clash with Wolves - is understood to be in the market for players in both Holland and Germany and former FC Twente and Wolfsburg boss McClaren is well qualified to give his view on a range of players in both countries.

The man who led Middlesbrough to their only trophy also took in a training session on a windy Tyneside day to compare and contrast different coaching methods.

And Pardew revealed it had been a positive meeting, he said today at his pre-match Press briefing: “He just came up to see what we do and came to see me.

“It was just a personal call.

“We will hopefully be in the market for players that Steve has come across in the last two or three years in Europe.

“There were a few that I asked him about which was very informative.

“Steve’s a good guy and he’s looking to get back into the game.”

Pardew went on to reveal his admiration for McClaren, who was sacked earlier this season as manager of the Bundesliga side.

    He said: “It’s sharing information.

“Steve has always been very open and when he was England manager he wanted to see what was going on at the training ground and giving information himself.

“He’s an open minded coach as I am.

“It was nice to see him here today."

Pardew has doubts over Jose Enrique, Leon Best and Stephen Ireland for the clash Wolves.

Might as well make use of McLaren's visits to europe, no bad can come of it, unless he starts speaking in a geordie accent. <yikes>

To be honest Steve McClaren is supposed to be a very good coach.

Pardew's a least making the most of what he's got at his disposal, even if that is an ex-Smoggies manager.

Anyone who wins a trophy with Boro is a canny coach! I think this is a very sensible idea, more info on our targets and comparing coaching methods can only be good things <ok>
