than we are giving him. If Hughton had done what Pardew has done then he would be labelled a hero!

How many of us were calling for Pardew to change formation to 5 in midfield after the QPR game?
From the posts I read, I would say just about everyone said we should, including myself! But Pardew stuck at it and had faith it would work. He started Ba and Best up front with two wingers and two CM's and we started to click against Villa and then again against Blackburn. Players were getting used to the system and becoming familiar with their roles in the team rather than chopping and changing formation, which leads to players taking even longer to adapt to how we should play.

Also, when was the last time we were this organised? I really can't remember! SBR had us playing great stuff and got us to the top 4 numerous times, but we still conceded quite a few goals. We have the BEST defence in this league! When was the last time we said that after 6 games. We are known for having one of the most shambolic defences in premier league history, even dating back to Keegan when it was the philosophy of "you score 4, we will score 5!".

How many times have the players come out and said they really like Pardew's methods and his man-management style? From the top of my head, Saylor, Obertan, Simpson, Best and their are more. Even when the fringe players were played in the Carling Cup, they were at the races in terms of commitment. Of course it is easier when you are winning, but he is one of the main reasons we are winning!

Just compare our situation with Sunderland's. Before the start of the season I would have taken around 5 of their players for our starting 11 (Brown, the two fullbacks, Larsson and Gyan) but now I would probably only take 1 or 2 (Larsson and Brown for RB).

Now, I am not declaring that we give Pardew hero status and build a statue, but let's give this man a lot of credit, because I remember how worried I was at the start of the season before the Arsenal game. Compared to how I feel now about the Toon, I give the most plaudits to Pardew. As an aspiring coach, I admire him and his conduct whilst at Newcastle.

Disagree entirely, I think the fans already give him all the credit where credit is due. We finally have a manager who we are happy to be in charge for years to come, very rare at Newcastle. I certainly don't think there's a lack of credit, we all love Alan!!!

I see what you're saying and I do agree that had it been Hughton doing all this we (myself included) would be singing his praises.

The thing is, I've said on numerous occasions that I don't mind eating the humble pie Pardew continues to serve me up. I was a major doubter, and he is currently proving me wrong. He's done very well but he has yet to achieve anything (obviously relatively speaking he's achieved a lot, but not a lot in terms of league finish or trophies...yet)!

<ok> to be honest i thought he was **** before he came here. But I think it's fair to say that it's really impressive what he's managed to do given how hard working with Ashley must be

I agree. I thought it was a stupid appointment at the time and now I have eaten my humble pie. I believe he has earned the right on these early displays to a couple more seasons in the hot seat, no matter how bad the times may get. In my eyes, he is unsackable (if that is a word) this season.

Why has this article got 1 star. I dont get some people.

Pardew deserves credit because he is achieving things with limited resources and he is working for a board he connot trust.

Now when I say achieves things I do not mean trophies, europe etc. I mean he is achieving our objectives which is to progress, develop and motivate the players he has to get good results and so far he has done that. We have not lost many games under his command. According to Wiki hes only lost 8 games out of 31 and thats a team who are or where hovering in the bottom half of the table after having just got promoted and losing some very key players.

Credit has to be given I say. Im on the pardew bus for now. But I will always wonder if it will break down.

Don't think it's a case of giving him a lack of credit , many fans , myself included , have said on plenty of occasion that he's done a wonderful job for us. No doubt about it.

    Good thread though <ok>

Pardew has stabilised us into a sound position, he has done good. Only thing that bugs me is he didn't manage to get another striker in. I honestly think we could be challenging for Europe in 2 seasons. MA will have his ****eDirect.com coverage throughout Europe if that happens.

Totally agree mate. I was not a fan of Pardew's at all, and was completely underwhelmed with his appointment. I still had this image of him (from his West Ham days), where he would bob his head around in post match interviews, with this cocky arrogance about him, that just seemed so unjustified. I will never forget the Championship playoff final against Palace (I live in Croydon and have allot of Palace supporting mates), where Pardew and all the West Ham staff were wearing these ridiculous shirts that said something like "The Original Academy"(!!!). I was so happy to see him fail then.

I stopped really noticing him after he left West Ham, but since his appointment with us, he seems to have developed some humility. The fact that this may have been his last shot at a Premier League club, may have had something to do with it. But he certainly seems to have toned his persona down significantly.

He still loves the sound of his own voice, but he seems to speak allot more sense, than in previous jobs. I've definitely had to shift my opinion on the man, and could see him having a decent long run with us.

Yeah I warmed to Pardew towards the end of last season and I'm even more pleased with the guy now. whack&blite above my post here said 'underwhelmed' at his appointment and I agree that is the best word to describe how I felt about it too. But he has gotten our team very well organised (especially defensively), maintained a good team spirit and working ethic and handled the press perfectly.
Also pretty sick of people calling him a 'puppet'. So the guy doesn't speak out about his boss, big deal - neither did Hughton: the issue in this regard is that Hughton spoke publicly about absolutely nothing whereas Pardew makes regular public statements of his intentions so often that whenever they transpire it isn't noticed but whenever they don't transpire they are picked up on instantly and he gets called a liar, or a puppet, or whatever the current buzzword is.

I believe Graham Carr and the scouting network deserve a lot of credit too. It looks like they are really starting to make their mark on the team as their hard work unearthing suitable candidates really starts to filter onto the turf at SJP.

However, Alan Pardew is also equally responsible for the sweet position we seem to be in as he has motivated, selected and kept them happy. I am impressed by how he has shuffled team members around to give everyone a go and seems to be impervious to any form of ego / player power that may disrupt the dressing room etc.

And, dare I say it, but maybe even Ashley / Llambias deserve some kudos because it's all been done without completely spending the Caroll money (I would think that adding up the wages on our new signings along with their fees will add up to something like £30mil)

I think the problem we had was that everything he was saying during the transfers felt like it came straight out FCB mouth. I was indeed dissapointed due to his past experience, but lets hope we can string results together and he last longer than the previous. Were playing attacking football which is not been seen for a while. So roll on Alan

I haven't come across anyone who doesn't credit Pardew with having done a good job so far. There are some who are waiting to see whether it will continue and there are many who just don't like him personally, but eveeryone I've spoken to is willing to give him credit for his job so far
