"The Magpies' frontline has been decimated recently following the sale of Andy Carroll and the suspected fractured cheekbone suffered by Shola Ameobi.

Pardew is left with just Leon Best, Nile Ranger and Peter Lovenkrands as attacking options and he is scouring the market to bolster his numbers.

The former Southampton and Charlton boss has now targeted ex-Middlesbrough man Aliadiere, who has been without a club since last summer.

Pardew has confirmed that the 27-year-old is an option for the St James' Park side as he looks to land a striker.

"It is a possibility," confirmed Pardew. "We have to explore every avenue. We are short on bodies."

    Better than nothing I suppose.

As good as nothing I suppose!

He's not good enough for the lower end of the Championship and a player the Smoggies got sick of because he could not score goals!

I'd rather promote Airey than waste our time with this lad.

There's a reason he's not had a club since the summer - he's shi-ite! Pardew should use Ranger, Lovenkrands, Best and our younger guys before bringing in a guy no-one else wants, won't be fit and wasn't very good for the Smoggies when he did get regular football. Short of bodies or not we have options rather than Aliadiere.

its such a total non story i can't believe someone posted it up. a lazy journo will have asked him if he'll be looking at unattached players and he'll have said "im not ruling anything out and all avenues will be looked at..." they'll then see a former player of his on the list and boom. utter garbage. if hes not even being picked up by the **** championship side hes training with whilst fit he aint gonna be coming to newcastle.

    Spot on actually.

Pardew's being asked whether he'll be looking at free agents which he replies "It is a possibility, we have to explore every avenue" Which could mean - making attacking midfielders makeshift strikers, changing the formation, bringing in youth players, recalling xisco, looking at free agents.

Ali is a free agent so of course he is a "possibility" among the 100's of other "possibilitys"

    Lazy journalism to a T

It could mean anything, just like how the journo changed Tim Krul's criticism into us wanting Shay Given..

If he's free and under £30k he's Ashleys kind of player. How good he is is irrelevant.

Just go with Ranger up front and pack the midfield- we can compensate with the quality of our midfield, especially when ben arfa's back!

    2001–2007 Arsenal 29 (1)
    2005 → Celtic (loan) 0 (0)
    2005–2006 → West Ham United (loan) 7 (0)

    OK.

I didn't come out of it but I'm eternally grateful for the bypass.
