FABIO BORINI’S agent wants January talks with Liverpool over the Italian striker’s lack of playing time at Sunderland.

Wear-Tyne derby hero Borini joined the Black Cats on a season-long loan during the summer to boost his chances of regular first-team football after falling down the pecking order at Anfield.

But the 22-year-old has started just two Premier League games for Sunderland - once under Paolo Di Canio and once under Gus Poyet - both of which saw him withdrawn before the hour mark.

Amidst talk of interest from Inter Milan, Borini’s agent Marco De Marchi is concerned about the situation, particularly as the £10million frontman still harbours hopes of securing a place in the Italy squad for next summer’s World Cup.

“He dreams of Brazil in 2014 and needs games,” said De Marchi.

“He’s only had a chance at Sunderland after the arrival of Gus Poyet, but it is still insufficient. I would like a meeting with Liverpool in January.

“I can only say that if the situation of Fabio does not change in the next month, we may consider a return to Italy in order to improve his chances of being called up for the World Cup.”

Sunderland are understood to have reached a financial agreement with Liverpool over Borini’s wages when he moved to the Stadium of Light on transfer deadline day.

Even if Liverpool wanted to recall Borini and send him on loan elsewhere, they would need to pay the Black Cats compensation for the fee Sunderland fronted up to take the former Roma man for the season

Can't blame him for wanting playing time. But he hardly deserves an automatic start, does he?

I can't blame the lad, he wants to play. He hasn't had a run of games and it's a world cup year. Don't see a problem myself. I'd want off too.

World Cup coming up - he needs game-time. On loan. Fair do's. Can't see anything wrong with it myself.

Fabio Borini is happy with his decision to join Sunderland and a return to Italy has not even been considered. http://bit.ly/1iWZ8FW ‪#‎SAFC‬
