2 bits of interesting spurs news this morning: 1. Man City want Bale but may be willing to spend £40m, treble his wages and offer Ade, De Jong and Adam Johnson (or a combination of the above) on top of the deal. (Source: Daily Mirror) 2. Kyle Walker has committed his future to the club by signing a new deal until 2017. What do people think of both bits of news? I'm staying quiet for the time being to gauge public opinion.
What do I think?....the journo hasn't spotted Ade's wage demands being a problem this end, so they can offer him all they like, and who wants De Jong when they've got Parker and Sandro. Even AJ thinks he's better than he is and he's on wages at City that would upset a few players if he got it here...which he won't, he's still a good player though, but Mirrorman gets a <flan> from me.
Ask yourself how did the media do on their England manager pronouncements? How have they done on previous transfer speculation? So how much weight should you give ANYTHING that they say?
That Man City with Bale headline is bull. The Journo completely forgot that all of City's stars are on like £70k/£80k p/w minimum and Ade is on something like £170k! Even if they offered £40m + the players it would be a no go as we wouldn't match the exchanged players wages = Collapsed deal As for the Walker bit, that was announced on the Spurs website yesterday afternoon. Great news.
Yeah, agreed SOS. it'll never happen. But for players like Adam Johnson, if he really wants to play football on a regular basis, he's going to have to accept a lower wage and move on. to which club, who knows? but it's his only choice. anyone seen this yet? saints are after Livermore apparently: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896...ine-up-summer-moves-to-sign-yakubu-livermore? Thoughts? they make an interesting point about Huddlestone coming back, and how Livermores chances will be limited, but do you think we'll sell? Apparently Saints have a 10mill kitty for the summer...... I would have thought livermore would be close to that, alone!
We won't let Livermore go, certainly not until THudd has proved his fitness and played a complete season without further injury. It looks as though we are going to be playing at least in the Euro League, so we'll need cover in that position.
I really like Johnson and I suppose in theory the £40mill would be more than enough for us to raise our wage structure to £100k which would allow us to pay him £80k and be fairly proportional. I don't see us selling Bale but if we do I doubt anyone will be trebling his wages, I'm fairly sure he's on £70k for us. Made up as it might be, that is the way we need to negotiate deals when selling any of our best players if we have to in the summer. There's only a handful of clubs that can afford them and if they're going to take one of our players off us we should take one off them, preferably one that they don't really want to sell.
yeah. but by the problem lies with the wages YV. The few clubs that can afford that sort of money, are the same clubs that are paying the high wages. it could be very difficult for us to get a replacement from one of those big sides that wants to play for us. in addition, if they are on over 100k p/w, having a new 100k wage cap still might not be enough.
I like Johnson and I wouldn't mind seeing us going for him in the summer, but obviously only if it's nothing to do with Bale moving. If we could ship out both Pienaar and Dos Santos, replacing them with Hoilett and Johnson, then that probably wouldn't cost us that much or do much damage to the wage bill.
I like both pieces of news. I have really questioned some players commitment to the club recently though maybe that its a bad idea for ade to come in full time
There's always players, good players at reasonable prices to steal. Barcelona have Affellay, Adriano and Cuenca, Adriano in particular would be quality. Real Madrid have Sahin, Albiol, etc.
If Bale goes it needs to be to Barca or RM, Citeh wouldn't be much of a career move for him. With Arry staying at Spurs I see quite a few committing their future as Kyle Walker did. Now the England manger stuff is sorted there is no reason why we can't put together a title challange next season.
I think selling Bale at whatever price would send out the wrong message to the likes of Modric etc. I also think that Bale's growing reputation around Europe could actually help us attract the kind of players that would help us build on this season (CL qualification assuming). So for me we just say hell no.
Macini's done a Redknapp impression. 'Gareth Bale is a fantastic player,' said the City boss. 'But I don't think he will leave a big team like Tottenham.'
The City-Bale link is nothing new. I'm sure, given any encouragement, that Mancini would pursue it. However, the hack in question seems to have completely forgotten Bale's own stated preference to play abroad if he leaves Spurs. Another classic Red top combination of regurgitated old news, and fantasy. Walker signing a contract extension is great news. Still has a few things to learn defensively, and in anticipation, but that will come. He has a terrific future in the game.
dont want City's rejects...they can have ours if they want....if they want to pick off one of our stars then we should only ever think about it if we can have any one of their stars..plus they can pay Ade's wages if they want to offload him to us.....De Jong is a **** footballer..stupid me..he cant play football..he is just hot air..plays the defensive midfield role without the football..Sandro is miles better...and when on form Lennon is miles better than the one trick pony that is Johnson...step over and cut in to have a shot.....not even a poor man's Robben. if anything like this happened i would be wanting Levy's head!
Ok, then, that's cleared that one up! Bale could easily play in a midfield with Barry, Toure, Silva and Nasri with one striker or they could rotate the attacking players. With CL football next season, it'd probably be a good idea, if a rather expensive one.
Great that Walker's signed a new deal as I'm sure there would have been substantial interest in him over the summer. Re: Livermore, I actually think he would massively benefit from a year on loan to a Premiership club, of the stature of Norwich or Swansea. Best not to sell him quite yet as it could come back to bite us. Would love to see Adam Johnson at Spurs but preferably as a third option on the wing to supplement Lennon and Bale, rather than to replace one of them. I'd be happy to see us sign Adebayor permanently, he hasn't overwhelmed but I think he's had a successful enough year to justify it if he comes at a reasonable price and is willing to take a cut. De Jong I see no need for, I see he's also been linked with Liverpool today, surely below our level these days...
Absolutley no need for De Jong when we have: Parker Thud Sandro Modric Livermore Johnson would be good as back-up, him or Hoilett I would be very happy to see come in. Ade, on reduced wages (he obviously isn't going back to Real, or to Barca) I would also love to have back. We do still need a replacement for defoe though. Saha is a good impact sub, and finisher to have in the squad, but as with the shortage of wingers, we can't build a game around havin a big strapping CF if we only have one in the whole squad. So for me, i'd love in the summer: Al Habsi/Vorm Hoillet/johnson Ade + new striker new cb + coulker in the squad (ledders retired and Gallas used for cups/champs league) not much then....
