The fish restaurant, not Allam obviously. The eatery is already rated in the top 10 in the country (despite only being open 4 months), but has been shortlisted for the top award. Be quite fitting to have the best chippy restaurant in Hull* really. Although it's up against some pretty tough competition, Trencher's in Whitby is sublime. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...-oscars-of-fish-frying-industry-a6710601.html *That's what it's going to be recognised as, face it. No geo politics here thanks.

Touch to beat Trenchers, fantastic fish and chips. Is it the Magpie too round the corner, normally a queue outside there, just like there used to be outside Carvers back in the 80's
I do not think that Papa's is all that special. The fish was good but last Friday I had Large Haddock and chips from Funky's on Beverley Road and I thought that overall the fish and batter were better. Papa's misses a trick for me really. Decent setting, good quality fish and reasonable prices, but, why skimp on the plates and cutlery? The feel of the resturant felt flat for me. For a little bit more spent on the basics, it would have lifted the experience. I also do not like the way they take card payments, walking off with the card machine with my card still in it is simply wrong. Marks for Papa's 7/10 Funky's 8/10
If they're looking at Norfolk, this is a very good one: http://www.frenchs.co.uk/ https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=f...AgQ_AUoA2oVChMIq73Yl6jjyAIVCz8UCh24OQ_E&dpr=1
My wife and I were disappointed by Magpies last visit a few weeks ago. Will try the one a couple of doors down next time that won done award last year. Similarly papas is good but not brilliant. The service in the restaurant leaves a little to be desired (we saw people leave who weren't seated quick enough) and my family are in agreement that the local mobile fish van in the west hull villages is superior in quality to papas.
The 149 normally wins these kind of things - they are pretty good too. Harper's no longer decent now that they are attempting world domination over quality.
The Magpie's gone downhill over the past couple of years, it used to be exceptional, it's not any more. I'm yet to try Papa's, I've heard mixed reviews.
I was a manager there back in the day. Our staff were not Rubbish. It was the customers that came in that were a set of ****s.
Service at Papa's can be incredibly slow and I too have seen people walk out. The Quayside in Whitby is consistently top class.
149 is consistently good. Foxhounds at Flixton do excellent fish and chips, along with a host of good value meals with enormous portions. See you have been to Dorset. Had some surprisingly good fish and chips down there and in Hampshire earlier this year. Best I have had were in a pub in a little village in Devon. Not cheap but worth it.
Went there last week. Service was fine for me. Had a platter which some won't like as it comes on a wooden plate but it was excellent value for money. Will definitely go again when passing.
Were the awkward bastards demanding unreasonable things like prompt and courteous service? The nerve of some people.
