I know there is already a thread about this signing but thought I'd make a new one as I'm talking more about another player really and the club as a whole... feel free to merge if you want though Anyways, the mroe I think about this the more I think it is an excellent deal by the club, AND proves lessons are being learned from the Colback saga. Let's be honest, Vito had a VERY strong hand in contract negotiations - clear number 1, player of the season, 1 year left on his current deal. Probably signed on fairly low wages as he was Arsenal's third choice and came here expecting to be backup to Westwood. So, why hasn't he signed an extension yet? The club clearly wants him to stay and he's not tied up witht he World Cup so the most obvious reason is Vito knew how strong his hand was and is demanding more than the club believe he's worth. Now with the signing of Costel, it strengthens our hand massively: we can essentially say "Here's our offer, if you don't like it thanks for the memories and toodle pip." Imagine if we'd taken this approach when Colback was demanding over the odds last summer? We'd have made a profit on the lad and had an equivalent / potentially better replacement in the door, as opposed to the shambles of this summer. Makes me a little more confident the club is heading in the direction.
Canny way of looking at it that, you do need two 1st team keepers regardless, pickford is one for the future, did we send westwood on loan to city to help out once???
Think it's a case of give him chance to. He wasn't a priority for contract renewals, now those are out the way they should be on with Connor and Vito (hopefully not JoS) any time now. Players also have holidays and what not so can't see any of them signing till they get back, doesn't mean to say contracts haven't been offered or even accepted in principle. I'm sure the clubs are working with the representatives. Just takes time. No panic.
Well we've signed three players and paid no fee so far in positions we needed to fill and they all fill the "previous premier league experience" checkbox too
