Judging by amount of transfer rumours flying around do you think that CH is starting to panick buy? It's just Bassong came out of nowhere and we are also linked with quite a few other players. I hope he is not but I get the feeling he is and it can lead to problems with the balance of the squad and can upset existing players.
quite simply, no. these deals will have been trundling along for some time in the background. just cos they aren't in the public domain doesn't mean they aren't happening all around us. at first i was thinking bassong was a panic buy but a quick clearing of the head and re-assessment of it tells me that its blatantly not.
I hope you're right, Superman. But I have to tell you that nothing I have seen over the last few weeks gives me any confidence in what is happening to our club.
Lol this board is cracking me up. A few week ago people were saying don't worry still a month of the window now he is signing a player it's panic buying..when wait for it there is still two weeks left not two hours!
This is just ridiculous, Javier Garrido came from nowhere, he wasn't a panic buy. Hughton has always kept his cards close to his chest. At Newcastle.
I am not so sure it is panic buying either. That is normally left until 12 hours of the transfer deadline at the end of the month CH, as a former defender, and a bloody good one at that, is more than capable of organising a defence but they do also need to be the right players. Most of us one here were broadly in agreement in May that the defence did need to be changed to some extent and it now appears to be happening and perhaps more to the point they are experienced PL players (as many have told us we cannot live without in the PL, up to a point I agree with that). It may not be a simple case of getting a few players in, throwing them on to the pitch and it happens in a flash, it could take a few weeks. Alarms bells are not scheduled to ring until at least end of November and if the back line is still a mess then it will be panic buying in Janauary
If he is a panic buy, then why was the 'No 5' shirt (Morro's last year) left unused when the squad numbers were announced!!!! If you read some of the posts on the 'Bassong' thread, you'll see that transfers mostly take weeks to resolve not days.
I suppose we have no choice but to have faith in Hughton's opinion of Bassong. But if we continue to play with a 50-yard gap between Holt and the rest of the team so that the ball keeps coming back, we'll eventually concede no matter how good the individual players are.
didn't hughton say that he expected to be busy right up to the deadline? seriously, some people need to calm down a bit. our ex-manager was a bit odd in that he tried to do all his deals very early. that is not the norm in the managerial world.
What, like this? Ok, admittedly we didn't have the ball, but this was about as close as any of our players got to Holty all game!
It saddens me to read such tripe. It wasn't that long ago some posters were panicking becasue we handn't signed anyone in a while - now we're complaining that we have - blimey - there's no pleasing some people. Hughton knows what he is doing - Bassong will be a good buy mark my words. Expecting a riposte .....
God, I am looking forward to Saturday, make the Fulham game forgotten (not a dig to you tony, I mean the panic buy speculators). I am actually lost barely any confidence after the Fulham game, I still have faith we can stay up. It's just Hughton finding the right balance.
Talking about photos at the Fulham game, did anyone try to get a picture of the Michael Jackson statue? The bloke sat next to me was telling me that half-time he went down with his camera to take a shot only to be told by a friendly policeman that he needed an appointment! This clearly sounded so ridiculous the chap said he just laughed when they told him that as they were obviously having a joke so he went to walk past them to get nearer when one of them grabbed him by the shoulder and in a completely straight (and slightly pissed off) face told him that they were deadly serious, you actually do need an appointment to take a photo of it!!!!! Have you ever, ever heard anything so ridiculous in your whole, entire life????
yes, this is true! you aren't allowed near the bloody thing!! its crazy its there in the first place, let alone the fact they don't want anyone near it its not the strangest thing i've heard at a football ground though. we played at the crisp bowl, leicester city, last day of the season a few years back. a group of us had taken along our best inflatables money could buy and were feeling in holiday mood. on attempting to get into the ground, a police officer stopped and said, and i quote, "excuse me, but you cannot take those in the ground." to which i replied, "why?" "because they could be used as lethal weapons" came the retort. "so" i questioned, "what you are saying is that an inflatable winnie the pooh can be used as a lethal weapon?" "that's right". at which point, he dragged me to one side and confiscated my pooh along with my unicorn and cactus. to say i was furious was an understatement! thankfully, i distracted the fuzz for long enough that my friends all snuck in with their array of blow-up companions! true story
I'd have started a "we payed for your hats! We payed for your haaaats! What a waste of council tax, we payed for your hats!"
we had some great inflatables! a couple of unicorns got through, blow up dolls, the inflatable sword from thundercats and someone not with us managed to get in with a massive inflatable goal
So last week people complained because we let ayala go and we were short at the back. Today we sign Bassong and we get complaints that its a panic buy. Would we have had the same reaction if it was that apparently god like Curtis Davies who had signed? I very much doubt it.
its purely down to the timing of the signing. i think its made people think about it too much, including myself!
