As the dust settles on this most remarkable season for the Swans it appears a different controversial story is going to steal the headlines.

No, not the Cardiff freefall, but the new celebration which supporters are reverting to when The Swans score a goal at the liberty Stadium. It is reported a number of fans have been seen throwing large amounts of confetti each and every time a goal is scored. It is believed that the confetti is being made by cutting up South Wales Evening Posts into small squares. When we tried to contact the SWEP they said they had no comments to make at this current time, but an investigation was on-going.

The new celebration apparently started in the season of 08/09. The man, (who has asked to be kept unnamed) which started the celebration said he wanted to find a new way to respond, a new way to show appreciation to his team when they scored a goal.

The season ticket holder would take a small sandwich bag full of the confetti in with him to every game he went. He has admited that he got his inspiration from seeing other Swansea fans throwing similer materials to confetti at matchs. He had attempted a number of different things to be chucked in the air; One idea he tried was a bag of pop corn, but it is thought that this would have been a waist of good food. Now that the Swans have confirmed their place in the greatest football league in the world, more and more people have started to take note of the confetti being thrown into the air, and have decided to join in on the response. It is thought numbers of people taking part has grown to well into the hundreds.
We got a number of people’s opinions on the new celebration, which is being called by some, a pandemic.

Brendan Rogers –“Ah, well, my players were outstanding last season. We’ve got some time to recover now before we start on this next huge challenge in the clubs history, which is a fantastic opportunity to recharge the batteries.
The players play as a team, and they have been outstanding and fantastic. Of course the individuals will get the plaudits, like Scott, but he’s a young player, and a lot of people forget, this was his first full season as a professional. So he’s done a fantastic job.

But no, I obviously don’t know all the facts in relation to the confetti situation that’s being talked about recently amongst the press. I don’t think it will take away from my players though, their professionals, and were outstanding all season, We will get back in for pre season and hopefully by the time the first whistle is blown my players will be in tip top condition.

Alan Tate – “Yea I love confetti!”

Scott Sinclair – “Yea, well you know, the thing is, I like to create chances, and score goals. It’s all about the manager for me, my confidence has grown, I do feel because he has favoured me over the rest of the squad it’s helped my game. But you know, I try my hardest to not let it go to my head. I’ve had a bit of banter with the strikers though, Dobbs hasn’t been too pleased that I’ve got more goals than him as a winger. The more I score goals the more confetti comes out.”

Garry Monk –“ Whats Tatey said then? I bet it’s something to do with how he hates confetti? He’s been telling me how much he hates it. It’s not surprising really, he warmed the bench so much towards the end of the season, it must come from the stand and get in his new hair cut.”

So it appears it’s all laughs and smiles with this new pandemic, but for some, life isn’t so sweet. Stewards and Cleaners at The Liberty have expressed their concern about the situation. They say it makes the Stadium untidy and that they are forced to spend more hours cleaning it – which is costing the club thousands of pounds in wages for the Cleaners doing over time.

However, some supporters believe such an expense could be money well spent it if helps the Swans to survive in what will be a dream to play in the premier league
