Bit harsh Loftboy but I have to say that neither looked up to the pace tonight. At least Rowly put in a shift and deserved his ovation. Cooky looked overweight and disinterested even to the point of coming off and not acknowledging the crowd. As said before a big thanks to two loyal servants but time moves on and emotions need to be set aside against reality - neither are Prem standard.
But why should any player"acknowledge the crowd"? They're just chattels, to be bought or sold by the magnate who happens to be in power. Demanding that a player should "put in a shift", or "sweat the shirt" is sheer boloquios, as the Spanish say. Grow up.
Well players say they want the crowds support, and say it helps them to play better. So why wouldn't they acknowledge the crowd for backing them? You're saying it's unjustified to expect professional football players to "put in a shift" to earn their wages? : S
I would actually look at it the opposite way. I couldn't give a f*ck how good or bad a player was for us down the years. Greedy cu*ts get paid unbelievably well for it. That should be reward enough without us having to bow for their "loyal service". They couldn't give a fu*k about the fans.
Do you honestly think Cook and Rowlands don't care? They've been great players for us in the past but both now have gone an injury too far and can't cut it and I'm sure they'll both be very down about this tonight. No matter what they earn 99% of professional footballers love the game.
Why did no one else see some positives in Cookie's game? He was slower than he used to be but as the game went on he became more effective. He certainly didn't look like one of the worse players.
What Swords said, even though he does seem to be even angrier than usual tonight.....Warnock and the players getting it in the neck......with some justice I will admit
I was at the game tonight and must agree with inkedupp Cookie did look overweight, rowly did try and play but sad to say time to go
Rowlands for me was a good player, Cookie didnt reach full potential. Nonetheless they have had their day. I would have prefered some youth players get a game tonight rather than a handful of old timers with nothing to prove getting a game. Wish i was the manager!
Ironic you should say that really, since the original Terry Paine, of Southampton and England, was very popular with the fans and almost certainly went out of his way to acknowledge them every time he played. BTW I don't necessarily disagree with your comment!!
There has been a gradual shift in players acknowledging the the crown (or not). It wasn't that long ago that players knew that it was the fans hard earned money that was paying most of their wages. Now it isn't. It's TV money, sponsorship and merchandising.
I love these 2 players it just a shame injuries have really caught up with them time to move on and find 2 younger modela bit they defiantly will be missed by the qpr faithful.
I think this is a disgraceful comment, and if this is the general consensus of this forum Iâm out of here. Both these players were instrumental in rebuilding QPR from the side that dropped into the third tier of English football. It was Cook that kicked started our season arriving just after we had been beaten by Vauxhall Motors and started the drive towards the playoffs, and then Rowlands who steered us to promotion the following season. It should also be remembered that, when this club was on the verge of going back into administration, Cook gave his signing on fee from Fulham back to QPR to help pay some of the debts. Both suffered serious injuries and have been unable to return to their former levels. That, unfortunately, can be a footballerâs life. Sure, they have to move on, but we should thank them for what they have done for our club and celebrate their memory. To say âgood riddanceâ to players that gave their all for QPR and lifted this club out of the doldrums shows no regard for the clubâs history. You should be ashamed of your comments.
