    Paid To Snub Sunderland

Newcastle’s club mascot made sure that he got his money’s worth when he was offered £5 for every Sunderland player he snubbed on derby day.

After the match on Sunday we showed you some funny images from the tunnel, where 11-year-old Oliver Aitken snubbed Sunderland captain John O’ Shea. The youngster revealed that there was incentive behind the banter. Speaking to Sky Tyne and Wear before the game, he said:

“My football coach said he’d give me a fiver for every Sunderland player I snub. I think I’ll be rich after the match if he keeps his word.”

Aside from making some extra pocket money, the Toon mascot will cherish derby day for a life time. Football holds a dear place for Oliver and his family as it helps him overcome a speech impediment he’s had from a young age. He said:

“Having a stammer can be frustrating because some people are impatient or take the mick out of me.

“The only time I feel free is when I’m on the pitch. When I’m playing football none of that matters and I can just get on with the game.”

It’s hardly surprising that the boy who loves Newcastle could barely sleep the night before and even had a lucky breakfast in the morning:

“I didn’t really get much sleep last night because I was so excited.

“My aunty bought me a packet of Lucky Charms breakfast cereal for my birthday which I saved especially for this morning.”

What a great moment for the young lad! He was clearly enjoying his time in the spotlight with a bit of harmless banter! How much do you think his coach owes him after that promise?\

Typical classless behaviour from the Mags, rewarding a lack of respect towards the opposition.

Only kidding, hope the kid enjoyed his day, and seeing his heroes record a memorable 1-1 draw. To be fair O'Shea looks like he can see the funny side n'all.

There’s a time & a place for humour but for me this is not the place. Maybe just me Billy, but I’ve taught my lad to never be so disrespectful to an opposing player. He’s now getting uncomfortable with his mates carry on in cricket as a result btw.

They aren't readily available and need to get imported from the USA. So as far as cereal goes, they really expensive. Love them me.

Not expensive in the grand scheme of things, but as far as cereal goes, it is relatively expensive, when you consider they are more than twice the price of a similar sized box of Corn Flakes.
