I'll start in the absence of anyone else- but given that we have guests and I've had a couple of glasses of vino rouge this will be brief! We started pretty much as we finished on Tuesday night and from the minute Nelson smacked a header against the bar from a corner I knew we would win comfortably. All one way traffic in the first half. Tyler Harvey repaid the managers trust by smacking a free kick into the top left hand corner-tbh most keepers (and certainly taller ones) would have expected to save it. Reuben was all over their back four and it was no surprise when he doubled the lead following a great through ball from Tyler. Banton impressed, but unlike the last time he was here and was accused of being greedy, he wasted two opportunities by trying pick out other players in the box in stead of having a crack himself- it was just like watching Arsenal of a couple of years ago. Exeter did nothing by way of shots on goal. Inevitably in the second half we sat back and almost made life more difficult than it needed to be. Luke was forced into a great save to keep it at 2-0 but eventually the third went in from captain nelson. Numerous chances blasted over the bar, Reid replaced by Morgan, Tyler by Allen and Banton by Thomas. 3 subs who can all feel like that have a chance this year. Esp River Allen who could be outstanding. Poor turn out by Exeter fans maybe 800? and very quiet- couldn't even abuse Luke in a way that affected him. Great wall of colour from the pics I have seen and excellent to see the players after the match-it appeared to really mean something to them. Tyler was given MOTM probably correct but Reid was exceptional and captain nelson faultless. Don't want to get carried away but in all honesty for those not there this could have easily been 6 or 7 -nil. This bunch look like the best since the championship and just maybe.......just maybe....... Exeter were v poor and may well struggle - bring on Tuesday. COYG
I wouldn't argue with any of that lyndhurst except for the MOM. Whilst Tyler did well enough in the first half he did virtually nothing in the second and was often just stood watching everyone else. MOM for me by a country mile was Reid. He was as you said all over the Exeter defence and they must have been over the moon when he went off. I could not understand him being subbed at that point leaving Tyler on. Pretty reasonable game and good result for us. I was at last season's shambles and this game was so much better than that one. Ref did pretty well also except booking Morgan when it should have been the other way around. Don't know what he saw.
Not sure Reuben would have lasted much longer..he looked like he was struggling towards the end of the match on Tuesday and with another one coming up this week I guess it was more about making sure he is OK for that match. If he only plays for an hour each match and scores, that will do. Marvell Morgan can do a job and I think he is currently underrated. TBH MOTM could have gone to pretty much anyone, but one goal plus an assist and a local lad to boot made it inevitable.
Yes I know what you mean but still thought he was anonymous in half two. There again it is up to the sponsors and who they want their photograph taken with so often the MOM shows no relationship to reality. Agree he did look a bit knackered but so did Tyler. As it turned out we scored another so it was fair enough to rest whoever Sheridan chose. I see the crowd was just short of 11500. Have to say I didn't think it was that high and would have not been surprised if it was reported a good 1000 off that. Each of those sections takes about 600 so I would guess about 1000 from up the road. It seemed to fill up a bit just before kick off.
What a great result yesterday....especially seeing that it was Exeter. Praise abundant for the whole team......now that is something that we haven't heard for yonks. My concern is where we that good....or did they make us look good because they where so bad. Having been restricted during the summer from strengthening their squad at all.....and hearing something about illness in the squad as well....I feel that we should not get over excited with this result.....lets see how we perform against Stevenage on Tuesday. Smaller crowd then last year.....still the holiday season of course....people away, school holidays etc. Maybe Exeters following was down a little because they know that they are not a strong team at present.....we'll see soon and then make a more accurate judgement of how we stand regarding promotion this season.
Don't be so doubting plym. Exeter were not that bad at all and played their part in the match. First half was undoubtedly ours and the 2 - 0 by halftime was justified in my book. However, I don't know whether there was a bit of complacency but Exeter were certainly the better of the two for at least 25 minutes of the second. We were commenting how Argyle let them back in by not doing what they had been doing in the first. In other words they sat back a bit and let Exeter play. Exeter looked reasonable when passing the ball around and we also commmented that Argyle could do with scoring again to knock the stuffing out of Exeter before they themselves scored to make it squeaky bottom time again. Exeter did look as if they might score but the Nelson goal duly did the trick and there wasn't a lot of fight left in Exeter afterwards. Not a lucky win and not the worst side we will play this season.
