Its operating profit fell 20 percent to 60.1 million euros (47.83 million pounds), or 14 percent on a constant-currency basis, after warning earlier this year of a "horrific run of sports results". Poor sods. Pointing to a 17 percent rise in the amount staked by customers and a 32 percent jump in its online customer base, McCarthy added, "The top line is powering ahead. We have seen a very strong return to more normalised sports results. That gives us a lot of confidence in the long run that our margins are fine."
Anyone heard about 'Holly' who placed the wrong bet with PP. She meant to place a bet on Manchester United to win 4 - 0 but made a mistake and plced the bet for them to lose 0 - 4. The odds were 500/1 so the next morning she checked her PP account and found a credit of £1250!!!
Sounds like the exchange between Doyle Lonnegan and Kid Twist in The Sting. Doyle Lonnegan: I put it all on Lucky Dan; half a million dollars to win. Kid Twist: To win? I said *place*! "Place hit on Lucky D-" That horse is gonna run second!
Yep Oddy, he was fantastic. Newman and Redford did great jobs and were the "name" players, but I reckon Shaw's efforts were brilliant. A real brooding presence. Another movie I liked was A Big Hand For A Lady. A terrific cast. Fonda and Joanne Woodward were something else. What I liked about the movie (as well as the twist at the end) was the quality of the cast. The card players, Robards, Meredith, Bickford, Paul etc, gave the movie some real depth.
Ah yes, a great movie, possibly my second favourite to Dr.Strangelove. Robert Shaw, along with the entire cast, were absolutely brilliant. I still flick my nose when I'm trying it on on the missus! But we're stealing a march on the one and only man from Greenford. The Sting was his great favourite, remember? He would often answer us ignorant twits with...."you follow?" Yes, SA, we always 'followed'... Think I missed 'A Big Hand For The Little Lady', will have to 'Amazon' it.
