so chaps what do you reckon Mr PP will put up as his opening day bet this year after their sucessfull campaign in the last two years with Dunguib and Cue card.Possible Sprinter Sacre?
And Cousin Vinny. They could offer refunds if any Irish winner in the Supreme given there's unlikley to be an Irish horse in the top 6 of the betting....
Grizzly I think Boyle Sports are all ready doing that one so they might avoid it-I wouldnt rule out steps to freedom placing either, the supreme is minefield this year!!!!
OK mate sorry, didn't realise the Boyle Sports offer. Trouble with PP is that there is now this huge expectation from punters because of the value they've offered with the last three shorties in the Supreme, the marketing team will have to be quite creative to keep up the risk levels.
As there going 8/1 the field in the Supreme, they could offer money back if the first 2 or maybe 3 in the betting win the race. I'm not sure they would want to do it in the Arkle, as the Arkle may only have 8 runners, so PP wouldn't realy have alot running for them. When they've taken on the likes of Cousin Vinny, Dunguib and Cue Card it's been in 16+ runner fields
Their offer has always been on the Supreme (genius move, anyone with money in their account has another 26 goes at losing it) and I thought it was always on an Irish hotpot but of course Cue Card broke that trend last year. I still think they'll find some way of creating an offer for the Supreme, and without setting off plumes of green smoke from Cleeve Hill....
If Simonsig was somehow to end up in the Supreme, I think they'd take him on as he'd be backed in to 3/1. It looks like he's Neptune bound though.
Sorry if I'm missing something blantantly obvious but are the two market principles Galileo's Choice and Steps to Freedom not Irish trained?? Also again, possibly stupidity on my part, but what is this 'Paddy Power opening bet' we're all discussing? I don't have a PP account.
It must be on the first day for two reasons: 1. It gives people plenty of chance to give all the money back. 2. It generates a lot of interest pre-Festival, which wouldn't be to the same level were it on another day. As for what it will be I have no idea. Beeforsalmon, in the past few years they have done an money-back if such and such wins the Supreme. They've taken on Cousin Vinny, Dunguib and Cue Card. It is absolutely terrific value because you can work the market so you make either a guaranteed profit on all runners, or so you have no liability and make a handsome sum if your selected horse(s) win. Last year I had Al Ferof, Spirit Son and Zaidpour running for me against the favourite, knowing that whoever won I at worst came out level.
Beefy it's a marketing gag. Last year they went "If Cue Card wins the Supreme we'll refund all losing bets". They did the same the year before with Dunguib. Load of old bollox really, just their way of drumming up more business - I don't believe it seriously affects their liabilities on the race.
The PP offer is always day one first race because, in my opinion, it means the small time punters put their £20, £30,£40 or £50 into a PP account and not with bet365 or Laddy's or Betfred. It makes perfect business sense to take on the favourite against a big field of unexposed horses that have been trained to the second to run the race of their lives.
Ah OK, got you now chaps, thanks. Indeed I recall these big 'take-ons' now. Dunguib was seen to be a very very risky one to take on at the time wasn't he, as he was viewed as being home and hosed, yet ended up being turned over. Cousin Vinny and Cue Card also got beat in this deal then. Interesting no stand out horse in the Supremes this year for them to take on. If their brave I think it's pretty clear who they'll take on...Hurricane Fly anyone? This year though they will get done if they do...COME ON THE HURRICANE!
BOS - yeah an exageration on my part, though I expect the likes of Cinders and Darlan to get backed ahead of the Irish, I accept they will have one or two in the first 6. Anti trend horse he might be but I think there'll be plenty of support for Darlan... I think PP said that the Dunguib offer had a £3m liability
Darlan has been very well backed today into 7/1 co-favourite in places alongside Galileo's Choice and Steps To Freedom. I'd have thought the Irish would have a fairly strong hand: Galileo's Choice, Steps To Freedom, Midnight Game and Trifolium.
I can see the favourite being Irish Grizzler and to give you a clue he's got a famous daddy I think I'll have to back Darlan purely because I backed him the last day and still maintain he'd a been, close, at the very least, of beating Zarkander and that one's clear second favourite for the Champion. You've got to fancy Darlan to run a hell of a race against novices if you follow my school of thought.
I can exclusively reveal the Paddy Power offer is: "Your money back on all losing bets if someone comes on Not 606 and says he/she had the winner ante post at 33/1"
I think this year they will come unstuck! they have been lucky for the last 2 years but its got to come to end!
They always do the favouriite of the supreme so I agree with you beefy on Galileos Choice but as you say he is on the drift of STF maybe the other option
