I thought I would start a thread about this. I am currently working on a staking plan for this race. Does anyone think that a horse outside of Zarkandar, Rock On Ruby, Grandouet, Binocular, Cinders And Ashes, Oscar Whisky (if running), Khyber Kim and Countrywide Flame can win? I can see this being a really small field going to post and I am looking to take advantage of this offer. Any horses that anyone feels needs to be covered and any help on the plan I will post up later is greatly appreciated. Zarkandar £26.50 @ 4/1 Returns £132.50 ROR £19.50 @ 11/2 Returns £126.75 Grandouet £17.50 @ 6/1 Returns £122.50 Cinders & Ashes £10.50 @ 10/1 Returns £115.50 Binocular £10.00 @ 10/1 Returns £110.00 Oscar Whisky £7.25 @ 14/1 Returns £108.75 Countrywide Flame £6.25 @ 16/1 Returns £106.32 Khyber Kim £2.50 @ 40/1 Returns £102.50 I know it seems a lot of work for maximum £32.50, however I could be well in need of that at the end of the week.....
I did this last year for the first time BG, and really like the offer. Mine would differ from yours slightly, I might build a little more profit into Grandouet, and possibly a tad more into Zarkander by taking out Khyber (who I reckon is County bound), and Oscar who surely has to go for the World in the absence of BB. Great offer though isn't it? Win Win!
Wouldn't you need to back Hurricane Fly as well to guarantee a profit (i.e. in case he wins - otherwise you would just get your money back)?
Nam, I am thinking I will put Oscar Whisky in and take out Khyber Kim. Then on the day if Oscar Whisky is taken out I will use my NON-RUNNER money to top up ROR and Grandouet
Yes you would Oddy. I am only looking to guarantee profit if he gets beat, if not I am happy with my money back.
I honestly cannot see a winner coming from outside that group. If so I would be very disappointed. Cotton Mill is county hurdle bound and of the rest, they have already been beaten by those ahead of them in the betting this year....
BG didn't PP put measures in place last year on the day of the Arkle to prevent such a staking plan after realising that we were doing this? I've just read their T&C's and so far they haven't done this...get on early!
I read the terms and conditions and have placed my bets. I have slightly changed the plan. Taking out Khyber Kim and topping up Grandouet and Rock On Ruby. I also spoke to the online support this morning playing dumb that I may have to place a bet for other people that day on another horse in the race after already having backed Binocular and would that affect my cash back offer? He said no (he said the offer applies to every customer once. So you have £100 to do whatever you like with on the race). Also, no rule 4's in these prices but NRNB. So if Oscar Whisky is indeed a Non-runner I will top up my stake on Zarkandar and Grandouet.
you could also back the Fly with the excess to guarantee a return unless a complete rag prevails. There have been a few boil overs over the last 30 years with For Auction,Beech Road,Hardy Eustace,Punjabi etc...I also remember Cima almost toppling Dawn Run at 66/1
Do be careful mate, last year someone I worked with/for did 50quid Al Ferof and 50quid Cue Card with PP (money back if Sprinter Sacre won) and he went to collect his 100quid back and was told it was one horse per race or something along those lines. 50quid down the ****ter.
Thats what I was alluding to George when they changed their terms and conditions on the day of the race or shortly before. However,as the Brigadier says, the T&C's at the minute don't mention mulitiple singles being precluded from the money back special.
I did this last year and got all my money back. That sounds really bad luck for your mate. I have checked the terms and conditions and it doesn't mention 1 horse per race and spoke to a member of the online help team this morning. I have taken a screen shot of the T&C's with my betting slip next to it to show at the time of striking the bet there was no mention of this. That should leave very little wriggle room.
Probably another to get stung by Paddy Power, they're the one firm that I personally will not bet with.
I personally like Paddy Power and some of their offers are quite good imo, but as with most things you must read the small print. Their offer of money back if Hurricane Fly wins is a good one -gives you an extra saver if you think HF can win. I never bet ante post so dont get swayed by any specials AP - for me its difficult enough to pick winners so why place a bet before you know everything - such as opponents, ground etc etc ... Most of the time at Cheltenham I see people that opt for ante post - putting about 5 or 6 ante post bets on and come festival time only one is one that is a 'live' one...complete waste of money if you ask me and not worth the risk.. You might as well through your money off a bridge !!!
I also did this last year - and did get my money back, however they did change the T&C's last minute, and are perfectly withing their right to retrospectively do so this year as well - if they decide to your bets will still be liable to any changed T&C's. That said, they changed it last year and then didn't actually use the clause they put in, so I doubt they would this year. None of which matters anyway, because HF ain't gonna win. Although I'd love it if he did. Zarkandar or Rock on Ruby.
