Having ensured Q.P.R.âs safety in his first few months after being appointed manager, Neil Warnockâs sought to strengthen his team for a serious tilt at promotion. While replacing Radek Černý didnât seem to be the most pressing problem he faced, one of his first signings was goal keeper Paddy Kenny. Although born in Halifax, Kenny qualified to play international football for the Republic of Ireland; the fact that he only had 7 caps was due to the excellent form of Shay Given. Having already signed him twice before, initially while he was manager at Bury and then again at Sheffield United, Warnock knew Kenny very well and had utmost confidence in him. Top post - I personally wish him all the best for the future. It has been a joy seeing a player on the pitch with a smile on their face - he demonstrates what football should be all about "enjoyment and commitment". A top keeper - regular of what some people on here may think.
You've done it again Roller. Another great piece of writing. Although you had to touch on a few unsavoury elements of Paddy's career, which you addressed so well, I still finished reading your article with a huge grin on my face. Well done, a great tribute to a fine keeper.
