Ozil claimed we messed up our title challenge this season. Wenger says those kind of comments are "not welcome". The man is clearly deluded. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/35948644
Ozil is spot on. Of course we screwed up our title challenge this season, anyone says on the contrary is chatting sh1t. It's clear that Wenger is trying damage limitation but he has to stop babying the players and say it straight sometimes. If he continues to treat them with kid gloves then they'll never learn to be strong enough to win the title. This was our best chance in so many years but we failed. Quicker the players understand that, the quicker they'll understand and take their level a step higher.
I would say that he should have waited till the end of the season to say it. At the moment you still have a (small) chance of winning the league and a player shouldn't be undermining that.
Wenger is right to pull him up over this. We need 100% commitment until the final kick of the season. We don't want any of our players having an attitude of giving up. Ozil deserves a massive boot up his arse over this.
Having read the full quotes, there's nothing wrong with what Ozil has said. He's essentially said that we still have a chance of winning it, but we have mucked up other chances to take advantage. What is the issue here? He's saying what most other fans have been saying. Can you not tell the truth in public now for fear of being reprimanded? Storm in a teacup. I actually think Wenger was wrong to bring him up on the comments in public. Even if he didn't agree with what Ozil said, he should have brushed it off and changed topic. Instead of singling him out.
I must admit I haven't read the full comments, have you got a link ? It's very easy to take a comment out of context.
You're trying to accuse Ozil for giving up just for pointing out the bloody obvious? He's one player that hasn't given up all season and has been our best player, without him we would be outside the top 4. He's an elite player and is a winner, he is clearly peeved that we've fcked up our title challenge and voiced his frustrations. There is way too much sanitised bull that comes from our management at times and sometimes you want to hear a frank and honest opinion.
"Looking at our season so far, we have to be honest and admit that we screwed up ourselves," said Ozil. "We did not play to our potential in the games against the so-called smaller teams. You immediately get punished for that in the Premier League. "But we still have a chance of winning the title. We have to hope Leicester and Tottenham slip up and then make the most of it." The Gunners' form has intensified the pressure on manager Wenger, with supporters growing frustrated following the club's exit from the Champions League and FA Cup in recent weeks. The former Real Madrid player, however, is keen to win the silverware for his manager. "I would be delighted for Wenger if we win the title," he added. "He played a major role in my decision to join Arsenal. He was desperate to sign me. Everybody knows he is an extraordinary manager. "He is always hungry for success, has a lot of experience and always takes his time for the players. He helps players develop."
The thing is he didn't even need to be totally frank and honest because what he's said is what everyone else has been saying for the past couple of months. I really don't know why the press made a big deal out of it and why Wenger felt the need to single him out in public.
But you said Wenger was RIGHT to pull Ozil up over it. Why would you say that if you had no clue what he actually said in the first place?
Because I hadn't read the whole quote in context. I agree that the bit about 'screwed up' isn't welcome though.
Single him out in public? He was asked about a comment made by a "single" player and answered it. If the comment had never been made or the question never asked he would never have mentioned it.
I like the fact thst ozil has said what he actually thinks it's alot better then the rest of the arsenal players who are super media trained and say alot about nothing
Not venting really, just admitting that when the pressure was on to deliver they couldn't hack it and let the manager down.
