All credit to both teams, they produced a great advert to NPower League 1 Football and put that back on the map, and yes I am a little sad Southampton missed out on 3 Points. Lee Tomlin scored the fourth penalty of the game in stoppage time to give Peterborough a point in a thrilling 4-4 draw at home to high-flying Southampton. Saints midfielder Richard Chaplow opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a right-foot finish from six yards and Rickie Lambert doubled the advantage in the 31st minute with a penalty after Mark Little fouled Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.Craig Mackail-Smith fired home from 12 yards to cut Southampton's lead in the 39th minute and Craig Whelpdale headed them level on the stroke of half-time.However, Saints forged ahead again in the 47th minute when Lambert again netted from the spot after Tom Kennedy fouled Chaplow and three minutes later Dean Hammond added a fourth for the visitors with a right-foot shot from 18 yards.Yet Peterborough hit back in the 55th minute when Grant McCann scored from the penalty spot after Daniel Seaborne felled Kelvin Langmead and Tomlin sealed the comeback in stoppage time after Oxlade-Chamberlain was penalised for handball. So now the play off place is open once again with Southampton sitting 4th in League One with 45 Points. After the Peterboro game,I still felt nervous watching our defence yesterday, even with no attack to worry about. Please either get another centre back on loan, or give Aaron a chance. Of the back 4 yesterday, if we do go up, I would only keep Fonte.
4 goals is enough to win any game......Against Posh there were at least two very bad mistakes........To be honest for me Kelvin had a hand in both those mistakes......If he commanded his area a bit more he would have punched clear some of the looping balls coming into the box. He was not helped at times by Harding. The hand ball by Chamberlain was a bit harsh, but to be fair it was a leveler as I think that the one involving Chappers was not one either! We seem to be very prone to the breakaway's and the hoof ball specialists. Not sure if it is our style of play, or a weakness in our back 4. Butterfield for me is weak as is Harding. Harding got forward well in attacking modes however he was caught in possession several times against Carlisle. A very big no no in defensive terms. As for Chamberlain another good attacker but a bit of a lightweight when on defensive duties, with a bad habit of turning his back when defending.
