Young Blues extend unbeaten start to the season. please log in to view this image Pompey Academy won 3-0 for a second week in succession, as they comfortably overcame Oxford Utd. at Northcourt Road. That's three wins and a draw in their first four games. They took an early lead from the penalty spot, with Alfie Stanley (pictured) tucking the ball home following a foul on Eoin Teggart. Stanley was then on target again to double the lead with a neat finish into the bottom corner before the break. The hosts improved in the second half and Leon Pitman made a couple of fine saves to keep them at bay. And Pompey wrapped things up following a quick counter-attack, with Harrison Brook cutting the ball back for Harry Anderson to slot into the net. Academy manager Mark Kelly said: “It was a good solid performance and we scored some very nice goals. “We identified spaces where we could play – whether that was out wide or through the middle – and made some positive choices. “But there will always be times when you have to be resolute because you won’t have it your own way for the full 90 minutes and we also showed that side of the game. “Leon pulled off a couple of fine saves, although we certainly had chances to score a few more goals ourselves. “We’re delighted with how the boys are performing from an educational point of view. In terms of their resilience and commitment, the approach has been excellent so far. “In training and during games, we’re constantly looking at the strengths and weaknesses of the system we’re using and they’re showing really good understanding. “We’re seeing that the work the academy staff have been doing with them during the week is really paying off. “With every match and training session that passes, they’re growing as a group and we want that to continue. “We want to realise what things we’re doing well, while also focusing on those little areas which can be improved.
