Oxford v Swansea Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Kassan Stadium Date - 2 November 2024 Kick off - 12:30pm Following their disappointing 0-1 defeat at home to Millwall, next up for Luke Williams’ goal shy Swans is a trip to Oxford. Last Saturday, Millwall claimed an unlikely first away league victory of the season as Casper de Norre struck a 90th-minute winner at Swansea City. The Swans had looked the more likely winners throughout a contest which they controlled for long spells. But after the Swans’ goal drought passed 500 minutes – with Zan Vipotnik, Josh Key and Joe Allen all denied by Millwall goalkeeper Lukas Jensen – the Lions snatched victory with their first chance of the game. With the Swans pushing for a winner, Neil Harris’ side countered through Femi Azeez and his low cross was turned in by De Norre from point-blank range. Luke Williams would have been frustrated if his team had only taken a point, so a first home league defeat of the season was particularly hard fir him: but arguably even harder for the long suffering Jack Army. On the same day as the Swans were losing to Millwall, Jobe Bellingham scored as Championship leaders Sunderland beat Oxford United 2-0 to go five points clear. Bellingham's neatly placed header opened the scoring, before Wilson Isidor doubled the hosts' advantage with a brilliantly timed volley in the second half. The Black Cats had 13 shots compared with Oxford's five as Regis le Bris' side sealed their third consecutive league victory. Oxford slipped two places to 14th in the table as a result of their defeat: 3 places higher and 1pt more than the Swans. The Swans have played Oxford on 28 previous occasions, winning 10, losing 12 and drawing 6. The teams last met in the League in the 2004/5 seasons when the Swans did the double. However, in the 2 Cup matches since their last League meeting, Oxford have won both ties. Turning to tomorrow, who knows what will happen? Given our lack of goals, it seems the best we can hope for is a 0-0 draw ….. However, the Swans desperately need a win if only to calm nerves and avoid talk of a looming relegation battle. That said. I can see nothing other than a comfortable 2-0 win for Oxford. Hope I’m wrong
Will Luke persist, fingers crossed or will we see a dramatic change in tactics in desperation to score and win?
