Owen has been posting videos of himself in training to prove his fitness. http://www.youtube.com/user/owenhargreavescb It seems a bit weird that we have let him go and he looks to be getting back into fitness. But of course, training is never the same as actual match time. Whatever is next for Owen though, I wish him the best. Really unfortunate with injuries, we must have known about them when we bought him and in his short time showed what a brilliant player he was. Much more than just a defensive mid, his technical abilities on the ball were fantastic too. I think it was the WC Quarters against Portugal where he was effectively a left mid tearing past Portuguese defenders and whipping crosses in. He and Saha are two players that would have had fine United careers if not for their injuries. And if he does prove fitness, whos to say he won't re-sign on a pay-as-you-play! (Highly doubt it tho!)
Yeah i meant to post this myself. I feel so sorry for him because he is/was a fantastic player and you have to admire how he has not lost hope after fighting injury for so long. Sadly though i don't think we would have released him if the club medics thought he would be fit for next year. I hope he can find a club elsewhere but these videos show that it is proving to be difficult for him.
Perhaps it will be a similar situation to Michael Owen. For a mid-table club, perhaps someone like Everton or Bolton, it's a win-win situation. Can afford his wages even if its pay as you play and if they can manage him properly, they get a geniunely class midfielder.

I think it is a shame that he has to make some videos to prove his witness after no club is willing to sign him because in his heyday, he was very good.
Brilliant player, IMO we would have won a lot more had he been fit, smashing player, hope it works out for him.
hope he doesnt join: chelsea,arsenal,liverpool,man city,real madrid or barcelona (the axis of ****s).other than that,hope he does well.
Would lose a lot of respect for him if he went to the scousers, he would be the envy of Merseyside with his curly locks. He should prob head to Spain, the warmer conditions would be kinder to his tendonititis
As BiggerEgo says I hope he doesn't go to the Axis of Evil but wouldn't hold it against him WHEREVER he played.End of the day he has to make a living and if fit deserves to play at the highest level.
You get the feeling that he wants to play football, one of those "honest" footballers (honest in terms of hard working ethics etc), so I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't end up at Everton. In fact, I'd like him to go there since quite a few players have gone between Goodison and OT in recent years, Rooney, Neville, Howard and Saha.
I really don't think any of the top clubs mentioned are going to take him. They've all seen what everyone at United has seen, that his physique simply can't handle playing at the highest level anymore. For three years we've given him the best medical care money can buy and every penny of what must be a huge sum of money has gone down the toilet. He's not going to suddenly get injury-free just by joining another club. Maybe there's an outside chance some PL team will give him a short pay-as-you-play deal but frankly I don't think so. And even if someone did that Hargo probably wouldn't last long. In all likelihood his career at the highest level has been effectively over since September 2008. Sad but true. And making a living? We've paid him £10m+ since he last contributed anything to the team. Unless he's gambled all of it away he can live a luxurious life on interests alone.
Top player but the medical staff are second to none and they must know what his future in football will be like. He is 30 years old and especially with his injuries it is all downhill for him from here. Hope he manages to find a club in this league though. Would love to see him do well.
Gotta agree. Our medical staff must have taken a close look at Michael Owen before signing him with a calculated risk and it has turned out to be a good aquisition. Can't fault Hargreaves's heart and determination but sometimes you just have to let a man go.
It could benefit him to leave. A new start, as it where. He could see it more as a turning point in his career if he left, rather than staying in the surroundings that haven't given him much good over the past few years.
Great player when Utd signed him but terrible injury problems. Just imagine what we could have achieved over the last few seasons with a truly fit Hargreaves.
