I am one of many loyal over seas supporters a fan for over 40 years, ups and downs, this a MASSIVE UP, and over 11,000 through the gate today to see us crowned CHAMPIONS. To all my family still in the Medway Towns and through out this world UTG and now looking forward to division 1. Have to add sadly my thoughts to all the supporters of teams , dropping down divisions and to those dropping out of league football, but remember, its only a game !!!!!!!!!
allbluelenny I think I understand what you mean ! - but if you were at Priestfield after the game, you might change your mind. I've been watching the Gills for much longer than you - but I have not seen celebrations like it ! When you consider that it was only to cement our promotion from L2, the passionate way the fans lapped it up makes you understand why Bill Shankly said that football was more important than a matter of life & death. Well done GILLINGHAM FC & well done ALL Fans (wherever you are)
lenny - I think for those dropping out of the league their battle has only just begun but it will be more so followed with a passion by supporters who as pointed out above, it is a matter of life and death. I just had a look at the top two conference games yesterday, both games attracted over a 6,000 attendance at Mansfield and also Kidderminster. Grimsby attracted over 4,500 at their game. Absolutely fantastic for football. Then that noise as we approached Priestfield yesterday.
thank you for your comments, and yes I agree, wished i was at Priestfield yesterday, well done lads and to all who have follwed no matter how many years UTG
'Tis tough being an overseas supporter when the thread of football support only stretches to Barcelona and Man U.....however when I explain that even in the lowest tier of English football, crowds of 10-12K attend, their jaws drop. This is support....the rest is just following. I have not been able to get to any games this season......however I follow form, personnel and everything that I can. I have been seen to jump out of my desk when I slink back into the office to do 'necessary' admin....whilst having the live report clicking away next to me......and have crawled my way up the prediction league. I left Gillingham many years ago..........but never swapped my allegiance to any other team. How couldI?.........Gillingham born and bred.
