Don't like to get into too much on the more personal side of life but (sort of) know for a fact that Rangers' unexpected dip into the doldrums, is a cloud with a bit of a silver lining, i.e. at least 3 new (Brixton) Rs 'born'!

For decades now the BrixtonR family had had to put up with the old man's QPR fetish. Apart from joining him at the odd game here and there, they've remained defiantly resistant to his pleas and other psycho-gimmicks aimed at gaining their undying commitment to them Rs. This, despite a mate playing for the club for a brief period at the beginning of our third tier misadventure.

Now, all of a sudden, the weekly concern for the mysterious goings on around LR and the prem drop zone is certainly heartfelt and almost palpable. At first I thought it was me they were worrying about. (Ha! Chance'd be a fine thing!) But when you find the opportunity to chat Rangers is increasingly met with equal enthusiasm and no little knowledge from all quarters, you have to take a second (quizzical) look before jumping to conclusions.

But here's the rub. Vaguely Palace supporting adult son's just realised there's a clash on New Years Eve. Got tickets booked up west to see a show on his mum's birthday. Not a mention though of his own plans for partying with his mates, he's twigged we've got Liverpool at 4pm that day. Cue big downer - relieved only by the fact we can 'tape' the game and avoid the results until we get back home. The 'phew' factor was blissfully apparent - and I doubt he even knows if high flying Palace are playing...

'Course, I played it cool but deep down the vibe was screaming 'TRIUMPH'!

Anyone else found the injustices we've been going through lately have stirred both sympathy and passions for the Hoops?

    U(new)RRRRssss!!

Always hurts when one's kids make bad choices. Devastated me when mine went for Milan who were 300kms away. Just couldn't and still don't understand it.

You reckon I'd only last about five minutes with Mrs Brix at the helm? "Swords, you're permanently banned. The Lady is not for turning"!!!

Na, its best you stay at the controls mate. Gives me a little bit of wiggle room at least! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Great to hear that and always believed that real football fans have a soft spot for QPR . Maybe it's because of the underdog factor and close rivals Chelsea ... No idea but my mates are Fulham, Gooners Liverppol Brighton Man Utd and there is a warmth there towards us
I also know a few Chelsea and they are sore losers and also in life
My boys were never forced QPR and the youngest even had a great chance with Fulham when he was 12
softly softly catchy monkey ... Two are QPR man now ... The eldest only likes drugs so 1 out of 3 isn't bad ... Pass the bong

Enjoyed the read. Think that my wife and son really saw what QPR meant to me towards the end of last season. Being in the Middle East in many ways made it so much harder. The tears of relief and joy on the final day ensured they saw a different side to me. My wife now regularly asks who we are playing on a sat morning and will ensure that I have the necessary space on a sat afternoon. She has mentioned how i have become more bearable in recent weeks. wonder why!!!

They all turn eventually Brix. My boy was a Gooner, thanks to my mates, until he was 11. Then switched overnight, no pressure from me, just inside the age limit allowable for such things. Has been rabid R since then, rarely seen him happier than last Saturday.

Worked the same trick on my old man, who was way over the allowable age limit but had mitigating circumstances, but that's another story. The Hoops are a powerful drug.

Wouldn't mind reading 'the another story' if you've got time Stan. Christmas tales an' all that. Just love 'em, especially with a Rangers (family-type) theme.

    Kinda what prompted this thread!

Any and every time mate. They've only met you once so far - but I'm sure you're part of the reason they're getting hooked at long last!

My youngest, that a few of the lads have met, was Man Utd when he was young. Of course he'd never been to see them or anything. One visit to Loftus Rd and he was hooked!! Won't find a more ardent Rangers fan now....only one in his school (apart from a PE teacher!).

QPR are the only football team my hubbie knows exist, and that ain't far from the truth.

He "knows" there is also a football team called Crystal Palace, whose nickname is "The Weasels"....please don't ask!. And when he wanders past any football match on the tele he shouts "Come on u Weasels".

so if u think DT3 is an oddball, you should meet MrQPRBeth.

My youngest daughter didn't like footy, till she got a Manure boyfriend and now she really supports the RRRRs. So I am getting there

    You asked Brix.......
My old man was born in Walthamstow, followed Spurs especially because he had a cousin on their books, but stopped going after the 40s as his family had moved west to Hendon and he took up playing rugby on Saturday afternoons (how a working class near East End lad who left school at 15 got hooked on rugby has always mystified me). Fast forward to early 70s, he finally stopped playing rugby, I was playing football/soccer every Saturday morning. Missing his Saturday afternoon/ evening recreation he suggested we catch a game somewhere.
But where to go? He ran a small business which involved driving a lot (he'd think nothing of driving to Newcastle on Tyne and back in a day to pitch for work) but really didn't want to drive across town to Tottenham. We lived in Harrow Weald by then, so Watford was the easiest place to get to, instantly ruled out on grounds of taste. Then he decided he had to go to 'the factory' ( a workshop on Margravine Road, Barons Court) on the selected Saturday in September 72. Made it easy, I'd get the tube down after playing, we'd meet at Hammersmith, I could watch him having a couple of pints at the Thatched House, and we'd see QPR v Cardiff in the second division.
QPR 3 (Givens 2, Bowles) Cardiff 0. At the end he turned to me and said words to the effect of 'right, lets get some season tickets, this lot are good'
Think his Spurs attachment had really faded - he worked and lived in West London, and I found out later was an acquaintance of Jim Gregory, already knew a lot about the club, all the blokes who worked with/for him and his business partner were Rs or Chelsea.
Lucky me, I think. Sorry about the length, couldn't think of a short way to tell it well.

Sorry about the length? You on DT's son's bong?!

Great story Stan. Interesting man, your dad! Not surprised he became an R given the background - but how come it took him so long to decide what game to watch that day beats me!

    Cheers for that mate.

Quite lucky as both my daughters are QPR nuts at the tender ages of 7 and 9. I think it was written in the stars as one of their teachers used to play for QPR ladies when she was younger and goes up to watch the games on a regular basis.

Only blot on my family is I have two brothers who support Chelsea (was spurs at one point) and the other Man Ure.... oh deary me.
