<peacedove><peacedove>The season is going to be over soon, we have the worst record in the league for nearly sixty years.
We need to take stock. Where is our weakest link.?

    1.OWNERS

Starting from the top do we blame the owner for Liverpool terrible position,i.e by giving the job to Kenny Dalglish?.

    2.SUPPORTERS.

Supporters have great power in running of the club, and some time the management need to listen to their opinion.Example was
their attitude to Roy Hodgson when he was there. He was not given enough opportunities to do the job as Kenny Dalglish has
    been given.

    3.CURRENT MANAGER-KENNY DALGLISH
Has he been effective as a manager.? Has he been away from football for too long. His coaching methhod good enough.?

    4.PLAYERS.

This area, I am going to divide to three areas, Defence, Midfield, Forwads.

    DEFENCE
We have the third best defence in the league:after Manchester City and Manchester United. We are ranked third.
Our defenders are they good enough for next season?.Do we need to strenghten.?

    MIDFIELD
Maybe, our midfield are protecting our back four that is one of the reasons we have third defensive record in the league.
Are they supporting our strikers inside the box enough, or they only depend on our strikers to score goals.

    FORWARD.
We have scored less goals than Wigan fighting relegation this season. Our stikers are they all good enough to wear the
    red shirt.

To you all where is our weakest link.?

Midfielders and strikers have been our weak point.

Strikers will be judged on goals, but the midfielders are expected to chip in with a few themselves. Without Lucas, we seem to lose a bit of shape and balance and look vulnerable.

CM is a weak point - no one with any real energy to take the game by the scruff of the neck. There's not power or pace or strength.

Our weak point is not a person or people. Sure certain positions could be improved, but no individuals are the weak link.

I'd say our weak link is our mentality. Mainly in the final third. Where we looked rushed and panicked.

Not exactly. We can blame them for hiring Comolli. From the outgo, he was a bizzare choice, a man focussed on stats and spreadsheets instead of on the actual game and he always came across as little more than a scout in a suit at times. But, they saw sense in removing him early and and now looking for a replacement. Credit where credit's due. They'll learn and improve as owners. Dalglish was a fine choice for manager and I hope they see sense in giving him one more year with a new DoF supporting him.

Our supporters have been **** this year. The Anfield games are dead for atmosphere and it's hard for players to be motivated when playing in silence. We should be drowning out the opposition fans regardless of where we play, cup game or not. Football clubs are build from the fans upwards.

Our actual football is mostly good, we just lack that extra quality in key areas. With the right additions, and losses, it'll be fine.

Defense deffinitely good enough. We need a backup LB though, and flanno doesn't fill me with confidence. Johnson, I think, is underrated. He provides so much width, pace and starts attacks down the right that we miss it when he's not in the team. Kelly's attacking play isn't up to his level, but might develop when he gets more comfortable with the role and when to move forward, etc. Carra will (hopefully) be fourth pick next season at CB. Coates should be third pick and playing more to cover for Agger. Either promote Wisdom or buy another cheap CB - I would hope we promote someone though. (what about wilson?)

Midfield lacks quality other than Lucas when fit and Gerrard when played in a free role. Deffinitely needs at least 2 more players, I would argue 4, especially if Kuyt/Maxi leave. Banega/Sissoko/Lucas combination could be immense when they get used to playing together and not massively expensive. We need quality on the wings, people with bags of pace. Sterling promoted hopefully to the bench for most of the season and build him in slowly. Remains a weakpoint for now though. We'll see how the summer goes.

Another weak point. Carroll, for me, has not done enough in 18months to prove he's good enough for this club. I'm applauding him when he wins a header and it goes to a team mate even, which is something he should be doing as standard. He just doesn't come across as intellegent, he's too aggressive with referees and constantly moans or lies on the floor when the ball is ready to be won. Improved over the season, certainly, but not enough for this team. Cut our losses. Need quality here badly. De Jong would be cheap and a replacement for Kuyt, same energy levels but more skill. Soldado the out and out signing of the summer, we need someone of his ilk.

For me the biggest problem has been the players we braught in to hit the ground running and failed to impress. I am mainly thinking Downing, Adam, Carroll here. I also think that Henderson is not good enough to have been played so consistantly; so that is the managers flaw imo. Injuries to Lucas and Gerrard has not helped one bit either.

I'll leave Owners and Manager for others to debate. I'm going to focus on players

    Defence

the back 5 picks itself when fully fit, but Carragher shouldn't be 3rd choice anymore. Either Coates should be 3rd choice, or if he''s not considered to be ready then he should be loaned out, with a new face brought in. Agger is prone to injuries and the ASA needs some competition anyway.

    Midfield

Gerrard and Lucas are the only two that I'm satisfied with. Adam and Spearing (if he's happy being down the pecking order) will do as squad players but not first teamers. I always said that Henderson shouldn't be judged this season, so despite how underwhelmed I've been by him I'm willing to give him a chance.

The real problem is wingers. Downing is capable of being a reliable if not spectacular winger for us - he has the potential to be a match winner like Gerrard and Suarez but he hasn't done it often enough, but I feel we should persist with him. Kuyt and Maxi should leave - it's been a long time since we had a pacy young winger in our side (Babel doesn't count because he was a striker) and all of the teams above us (except maybe everton) have at least one.

Forwards - Where else to start, but the enigma that is Andy Carroll? Should we stick or twist? I'm switched back and forth between both options at least twice this season and I still can't make my mind up. Suarez needs another striker to move defenders around to get the best out of him: Remember the interchange between him and Bellamy at Stamford Bridge? for me that is Liverpool at their best. Bellamy should stay if possible but it's clear that we need at least one clinical pacy striker.

  7. Bellamy doesn't tend to stay at a club for more than a season, just like in his first stint with us. Plus, how many games has he played upfront for us this year? Kenny keeps putting him on the left (which annoyingly often means Downing on the right where he is even worse!)
