OK this is not just because we lost and I know we still have kep players out but I feel strongly that we do need to bring a couple in during the window. Jos much as I love the guy isn't PL standard and Fox isn't either. We have strength in midfield but I still feel we are also a bit light up top. So for me we need a versatile defender and a winger/front man. Thoughts
Same thing we've always needed: a central defender, and if that player cannot cover leftback, we need an additional fullback. A keeper on loan wouldn't be a bad idea, if one is available. We need a winger or attacking mid, possibly two. That's the case even when we're healthy...we need the ability to rotate the squad without it causing a massive dropoff, given the frenetic pace at which we play.
As has been said on the match thread, it's the combination of Fox, Jos, and Gazza which is particularly deadly. None of them want to take charge of any defensive situation. Having said that, Chambers looked good on the left today, so when Clyne is fit, Chambers can be cover for both full back slots. The need for GK and CB cover is becoming more and more obvious though. And we really are missing Victor.
I think you're being overly harsh. Hooiveld plays ok when he's not partnered with Fox. And Fox can be carried when the rest of the team are fit. Putting the two together should be an absolute last resort. I don't disagree that we desperately need reinforcements though.
What has Yoshida done wrong? Better technically than Jos, faster and wins a lot in the air. Jos was being outjumped by players a foot shorter than him.
Our SQUAD is not good enough for where we want to be. Our prefferred staring 11 of Boruc, Clyne, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Rodriguez, JWP, Lambert, Lallana IS good enough for a top 8 finish. Add to that S. Davis, Cork and Osvaldo and they are the only players on the bench who are good enough. Youth is a great option but there needs to be a balance. The fact that our bench at the moment is mainly all academy players shows lack of depth, not that we are bringing that much youth through choice. We desperately need another CB in Jan, if Lovren got injured we'd be severely ****ed.
Agree!!! Today shows that a top 4 should be next year's challenge which we would be on course for once we get 3 or 4 good players between January and in July/August, we only have 14, 15 very good players not twenty something like spurs
Our issues at the moment are in three levels.... 1)Gazzaniga isn't good enough at shot stopping, general play on the floor or dominating the 18 yard box. We need to pay for a keeper for the next 5-6 years.... In the short term, Cesar on loan and a fit again Boruc sparring for the number one shirt suits me fine. 2) The partnership of lovren and fonte needs reforming with one quality player for cover-neither maya or his cut it for me. Astori would be fine and would be cut price in comparison to what he was being touted for. 3) Our central midfielders are not giving value in terms of goals.quakity loanees needed please.
Damn, i wanted to write this I agree completely. At the very best, we need another GK, CB, left back and an offensive player in Lallana mould if we want to push on and compete for the top spots. Uor squad is mid table quality as it is.
Well, he didn't cover himself in glory against Villa. I've seen the Titanic turn bloody quicker than he did for the ball watching first goal!
Regarding Yosida, jury is still out as far as i'm concerned. He was mosltly solid last season, but against Villa he was rubbish. Hooiveld, on the other hand, proves week in week out he's not cut for EPL.
We can just about manage with one, 2, or even 3 of our back 4 out - just about. But not if they're playing in front of a keeper who isnt up to scratch. I was all for giving gazza a chance. Well now hes had his chance. We need a keeper, desperately
Boruc New keeper Clyne Chambers Shaw New LB Lovren Fonte Yoshida New CB Schneiderlin Cork Wanyama JWP Davis Lallana Rodriguez JWP New winger Lambert Osvaldo Rodriguez New striker
The squad especially defensively is nowhere near strong enough to compete in the top ten, if we want the season to live up to any sort of expectation we need another 1st team CB, and another left back to compete with shaw.
Our strong defence has been smashed by injury. Losing Wanyama just added insult to injury. Mauricio has had no luck and is struggling to do the best he can. Proves what we always knew...we need more defenders and a decent back up GK, but I am not expecting much money to be available in January. May get in a couple of loanees.
