From Exeter Red on OTIB....I hope this annoys the players and they realise It's not all the Manager's fault. ' For the first time in nearly four decades today, I was embarrassed for my club. not embarrassed to be a supporter but by what we produce in footballing as a profession .I don't know what happens in training, or the overall mood of you all as a squad of professional footballers. but you have let yourself s down today in most ways that a professional footballer should not. The majority of you are probably here to further your career then leave, I am fine with that.! The majority of you are probably mulling over what next big expensive four wheel drive to pull up in next, I am fine with that.! Some of you are probably jealous over some team mates over the varying wages and bonuses, I am fine with that.! I can even understand that you cannot produce your best performance at every game you play.! What you should be saying to yourself s and each other is, we are better than this. If i see my team mate having a mare of a game, I will make it my job to support him on the pitch vocally and physically. I will chase every ball, and pick every pass to the best of my ability. I will be mentally strong every game for the full ninety minutes. no matter what the result. I am proud to be a footballer. and proud of the skill and talent I have. I want to know that when I leave the pitch i have done my best and could have done no more. you guys live our dream and play for a club which a great many people have a great affinity and love for. you carry the responsibility of wearing our shirt and badge, not easy to do sometimes. So all I ask you is please, show us your best at every opportunity, show us your pride, maybe not in our club but your pride of being the best you can be. Show us the joy of winning in your faces, and the despair in defeat. If you can do all this you may one day learn the love the badge, and then really know what pride is in a club. Not a go at ya guys, but you all know you are better than this......... ' Most of them need a big boot up the ass..... http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/150537-players-please-read/
I agree 100% with everything said above. I think it is obvious that there are some who do not care and who are dragging us and a promising manager with them. I hope someone in the club shows this to all the playing squad. I only wish I had had enough talent to have played for my team, but it was never to be. So let our examples to the current squad be those who have gone before and who gave 110% every time they stepped on to the pitch for Bristol City. The list is too large to compile in a few minutes but how about some from the 1976-80 team. Chris Garland, Gerry Gow, Gerry Sweeney and Geoff Merrick! Let the lazy ones in our current squad see some video of how these greats continually put their bodies on the line for the RED CAUSE.
I find all this blaming the players a bit strange. I've heard this all before, but a lot of the players have changed since Del took over, but this is still being said. Players are players, they are a breed on their own, so much money for doing something they enjoy. In other words most players are the same or have the same mental attitude> That's why we have managers and coaches to get the best out of them, to wear the shirt with pride etc. To be able to get players to play as a team and not individuals. Get a decent manager and you will see the changes in the attitudes from them....I guarantee it.. Cidered, I remember those players mentioned i.e Sweeney, Fear, Garland etc, they would have also come across that the world revolved around them......But they had a decent manager to sort them out..
