Some of you may remember a post I put up on 606 last year announcing our purchase of a racehorse. I won't clutter this board with a reproduction but for anyone who might be interested in the background here is the link to that post. Background

She is looking magnificent now so I will be adding an update here shortly and hopefully get a video of her to show.

Look forward to seeing it. How lucky you are - a thoroughbred and a gorgeous looking Arab stallion

When we bought her she looked under nourished and not yet developed into her large frame. She was nowhere near ready for training so we just let her settle in and put on a bit of weight before any meaningful assessment. We soon discovered that she hadn't a clue how to jump a fence properly but she is very intelligent and learns quickly. During the summer and most of the winter she was out with some of our other horses relaxing and generally chilling out.

During May she started with some light work, including some free schooling and some jumping education, gradually building up to a programme of serious trotting work.

She has really developed well since her arrival and now looks an absolute picture. During the last fortnight she has started cantering and has quickly learned not to lean on the bit. Amanda occasionally lets her go and she accelerates instantly. In another fortnight or so she will be ready to try out on a nearby race track to let her really stretch. At present, the vibes from the saddle are good but after a few goes on the track we will have a much better idea.

When I have a video I'll try to post it via YouTube so the experts amongst you can do a sort of paddock inspection and a cantering to the post inspection. That will be interesting.

Thats fantastic Ron, what a thrill it must be to have your own racehorse. I have often thought about it but quite wisely or foolishly decided it was just outside my financial capabilities. It has been a long held dream to go and buy a yearling and take a chance and see what happens, it would have to be a flat horse though as could not take sending my own horse out to jump fences. I will watch for your updates, best of luck with her. Have you given her a name yet?

She already had a name Bluesky. All the details are in the link back to 606 above. We call her Rounni for short.

She is 6 now. The only yearlings we have had are 3 we bred ourselves but they were for show jumping. One had her first birthday 11 days ago - Birth of Annabella

Here's another we bred (now a fully licensed stallion)

    and his mother

Thanks for the plug the other day WF and the very kind intro.

You might like her version of Wild Horses (It's the song that got her the interview on the radio). Just sung straight into the laptop in her bedroom.

Interesting version. I like the original (or at least first heard) version by the Flying Burrito Brothers.
