Just picked this up from NUFC.com A slightly unexpected boost to Newcastle's bid to remain in the Premier League came on Tuesday evening, when Swansea City recorded a 3-2 victory away at Wigan. Nine additional minutes were played at the conclusion of an eventful game in which ex-Magpie Wayne Routledge supplied a fine assist for Swansea's opening goal. Fellow Toon old boy Gary Caldwell then did likewise for the Latics before two poor pieces of defending from him allowed the Swans to score another twice. The Wigan captain also saw visiting 'keeper Michel Vorm make a stunning save to deny him a headed goal. The result leaves Wigan three points behind United with two games each to play and an identical goal difference. If that doesn't stir us sufficiently to claim a victory at Loftus Road on Sunday then we really should pack in. Regardless of what happens anywhere else, victory for Chelsea at Villa on Saturday followed by three points for us at QPR on Sunday would ensure our safety, given that Villa and Wigan couldn't both overhaul us unless they each won on the final day. And as they play each other, that's impossible. Alternatively, a draw at Loftus Road on Sunday would preserve our status if Wigan lost at Arsenal on Tuesday. Don't really see Wigan getting anything off Arsenal, except a stuffing maybe. Hopefully anyway. Our old boys doing ok for us, one way or another.
