    So how many points people?

    Liverpool away then two home against Sunderland and Reading followed by away games at Fulham and Stoke.

    I reckon we should be looking at getting at least another 6/7 points with a couple of wins and a draw. That would give us 19 points after 19 games as we move into the window.

    Think I'm being realistic rather than optimistic.

    Just because they are the sort of the games we need to be winning, I would be disappointed if we didn't win both our home games. As for the others, well, realistically we shouldn't be getting anything at stoke or liverpool, but a point at fulham is far from unrealistic.

    So...7 for me, but perhaps 5 is more likely.

    I'd take 7 from this I reckon,

    Liverpool - Lose
    Sunderland - Win
    Reading - Win (PleaseOhPleaseOhPleaseOhPlease)
    Fulham - Draw
    Stoke - Lose

    You could probably interchange the result of the Fulham and Stoke games, but I think we'll get something from at least one of those.

    7 points would put us on 19 points which is 1/2 way to the mythical 38 point safety target, at exactly the half-way point in the season. You would like too believe that our worst performances are now behind us, and the January transfer window will be upon us.

    Any points against Liverpool would be great, but we should really be beating Sunderland and Reading. Fulham away is the same as Liverpool for me, but we have a better chance against Stoke. Anything less than 6 points would be unacceptable really. I think we can get 8 or 9 though.

    I don't think that's too unrealistic. Reading at home is a must win and I'd expect 3 points if we play like we have done recently. Sunderland and Fulham could be worth a few points but anything from Liverpool and Stoke I'd consider a bonus. I reckon 5 points (Reading win and Sunderland and Fulham draw) which wouldn't be the end of the world.

    Really? I know Liverpool haven't had their most stellar start to a season in memory, but i'd fancy us to get a result away to Fulham over Liverpool!

    I think we could conceivably beat each one of those teams, we won't of course but there's not a game there that I think is a lost cause. A lot depends on form and injuries when we face each of them.

    Liverpool = Loss
    Reading = Win
    Sunderland = Draw
    Fulham = Win
    Stoke = Draw
    Total = 8pts

    Slightly optimistic with a win away to Fulham and I'm not taking Reading for an easy ride either but if we don't beat them at our's than I'd be slightly worried. Stoke and Sunderland are two solid teams that don't exactly attack in numbers so I think we will struggle to break them down a la Norwich.

    I'm strangely optimistic for Liverpool. Can't really say why.

    Gotta win the two home games, and pick up at least a point away. January and February are going to be pretty brutal, and I'd really rather not going into March several points adrift of safety.

    I'm not sure, they really are quite immense at home. Only dropped points to city is it? Still, you never know.

    Less than 6 - Not good enough
    6 or 7 - Decent
    8 or 9 - Very good
    10 or above - Outstanding

    Anything less than 6 and we are in real trouble. I'd like to have 7 or 8 because as said above Jan and Feb are not going to be big points months for us.

    Right answer. Almost certainly insanely optimistic, but still the right answer.

    Although I'd like to think we could got away from home and set ourselves up to be hard to beat, it seems we can't. So we'll just have to try to win every game.

    Shows how much better we are all feeling when 5 points is the lowest guess! Personally I think I'll be disappointed if it's any less than 7.

    6-7 will be ok. Wins against Reading and Sunderland, draw against Fulham. I think the pull away from bottom three is going to be slow, but will be achieved by winning the 6-pointers. We have a decent run out at the end of the season and we have quality and spirit, so we will be fine if we get in a decent position with an improved GD. We will have to be patient as I can see some bad weekends when our rivals pick up points and we lose.

    Back in the days when we were suicidal and people were preparing nooses from large trees, a "where will we bat Xmas" points thread was done. I said we'd be on 17 or 18 points, so 5 or 6 more then and we're on track.

    From those five games, I think we'll get 6 points, maybe even 9.

    Agreed. Get those points and a couple of additions in the window and we should be fine!

    If we are on 17-20 points by January the 1st, that is almost half way to where we need to be points wise. It will be a really good position to be in. We need to find another 16-19 points to be save. Very doable.
