We are being linked with Roma striker Pablo Osvaldes,as he missed their last match and was seen in london with his girlfriend, this has fuelled reports that he is joining us,i won't get any hopes up though, until something is confirmed by the club,as we seem to be signing anything that moves, according to the media
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_Daniel_Osvaldo Decent coring record in the last couple of years, but nothing to get excited about prior to that. He's 27, and appears to have had 2 good seasons only. 199 games or so, and 70 goals to his name. I don't know anything about the guy, but he doesn't excite me as the sort of player we need. he's only had 8 caps for Italy too. But knowing us, this is the exact sort of player we'll go for. he'll probably bearound the £8-10m mark and we'll take a punt. Experience telling me that he'll be a disappointment.
Don't know much about players in Serie A as it's the one major league I tend not to take much interest in. Like Roo said his goal record is pretty good over the past few seasons and that alone is enough for me. It's simple we need a new striker, obviously we'd/ I'd love a world class one but then how many world class strikers are available and would be interested in joining us? Osvaldo seems a good striker going by stats, if rumours are true, I hope Levy seals this deal ASAP so he can join immediately when the window opens.
world class strikers could be a problem AGAIN if we don't make the CL, but I'd rather we were putting our efforts into someone like Benteke, who we know is a proven premier league goal scorer. He might be £15m or so, but that is worth spending with the situation we could find ourselves in again. It's far less of a risk. This guy could easily be a rebrov/postiga type. I'm sick of us spending £10 mill or so on players like that.
Think there's a risk on any striker in fairness mate. Benteke looks awesome (and I'd love him at Spurs for the record) but what's to say he won't be a one-season wonder or that he'll settle perfectly here? Look at Ade, amazing when on loan yet tripe since joining. Torres, amazing for 'Pool, woeful for CFC. Carroll, great for NUFC now on loan at West Ham... Even Prem proven strikers have an element of risk about them. Osvaldo may well be a Rebrov/ Postiga like you said but then he COULD be a Berbatov.
...and 22 year-old Balotelli has had 19. So yeah - that doesn't sound promising. I basically have next to no idea about foreign-based players (and won't bluff that I do). But out of the Prem Michu really does look the deal, doesn't he? Is it just assumed that he'd be too expensive now?
In regards to the 8 caps, Italy have had some decent strikers over the years. Totti, Di Natale, Toni, Gilardino, Cassano, Boriello and now with a young batch of players like Giovinco, Balotelli and El Sharaawy, it may have just been a case of being unlucky for Osvaldo. Look at Lambert this season, top English goal scorer yet gets over looked for players like Welbeck who have 1 goal in the league...
Very true SOS, but I'd rather go with someone who's scored premier league goals, is still young and could learn through AVB. - all the signs are there. Benteke might be a 1 season wonder, but I still think when weighing everything up, he's far less of a risk. We can only go on what we know, and at the moment we know nothing about Osvaldo, except that he's already 27, his goal scoring has been average and he pretty much didn't show up until he was 25. That smells of an average player who won't cut in, IMO. - But maybe he will? regardless, I don't like the thought of spending money that could be wasted, and this guy smells like Deja Vu to me.
Yeah don't get me wrong if given the choice, I'd take Benteke over Osvaldo all day long for the reasons you say. I'm just so desperate for a new striker that anyone with a half decent record will do for me . Osvaldo could just be a late bloomer, didn't Di Natale only come to true prominence when he was around the same age? He's an awesome player in my eyes and still doing the business now at 35.
Im the same mate. But we have to get it right. we need that top player who can make he difference, as well as a young benteke type with loads of potential. It'll kill me to see us waste x million on someone that we could have spend that littl bit extra on, but instead decided to be cheapskates. It hasnt paid off for us on so many occasions. we can't have it happen again. - not now we're trying to make a solid top 4 push.
Bale was a fairly unknown £10mill player once. I like the sound of Osvaldo,Bentencke????????????????
When reported last week in the Standard, they did make note of his attitude and disciplinary issues: http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...-for-spurs-8558069.html?origin=internalSearch At the very least, we should have three strikers next season, and my minimum expectations are Benteke, Defoe and Kane for those three. Osvaldo simply doesn't come across as a solution, partly as he's got baggage, and partly because he may be good at sticking it in the net but our system requires more than that.
interesting. I don't see him being levy's cuppa. Benteke Defoe and Kane is still too weak if we want to push for CL Harry Kane looks likea promising youngster, but there's no way he's ready for the pressure of a top 4 push. it's not fair. He needs to do what Lukaku did this season at another prem club. - Perhaps Norwich again, for example. Defoe will get a few goals, as he always does, but that then means we rely in Benteke who is also still young, despite showing his premiership ability. As part of this strike force, we must get someone who really makes the difference, who for the first time in years, we feel we can rely on.
I don't really see what Benteke would add that Ade doesn't. I want Benteke + Ade + Defoe with Kane as a loanee next year. Kane has done nothing so far to suggest he should be our third striker next year. Walker, Caulker, Naughton, Townsend and Rose have all gone on Loan and impressed, don't think Kane will be any different. As an aside, does anyone know how Coulibaly and Falque have done on loan? Think Falque and Andros could have been very handy right now. Certainly instead of Clint and Holtby out wide.
I did say "at the very least" - that would be the most likely scenario for those with the heads already poised to slam into their desks when the transfer window closes.
wouldn't even say that's enough to be honest mate. "at the very least" still needs to be stronger than that. I will panic if that's what we have come august 31st.
Oh roo, you've fallen into the transfer window optimism slightly. Come August 31st we will still have the same strikers we do now, or maybe less if 1 or 2 leaves. The idea we would bring in NEW STRIKER before august 31st is just laughable!
Signing strikers/goalscorers? That's just silly... Benteke will stay at Villa at least another season, likewise Michu. Osvaldo, doubtful, Levy won't sanction the spend on another moody player the wrong side of 25. Others are getting sewn up faster than a Lennox machine Falcao/Red Mancs Weimann/Pool Van Wolfswinkel/Norwich Bony/Wet Spam Aubameyang/Barcodes Cavani/Chavski Will there be any talent left to fill the at least 2 spaces in our squad? Probably end up with Remy, JD and one of Anybuyer/Dumbsey still on the books (along with a returning but still not ready for the first team Kane)..... and if we're lucky, and I mean very lucky we might have a shout at Son Heung-min AND for god sakes, no-one mention ****ing Damiao
