Our magic number for automatic promotion is 15. Any combination of points dropped by WHU and points gained by use which equals 15 means we finish no worse than 2nd. Maximum points WHU can get is 93. We have 78. I do not think WHU is going to win the rest of their games. Their schedule is the toughest of the 3 teams.

Our magic number to be champion is just 16. Any points Reading drops and we gain equaling 16 means we are top.

A draw by WHU/Reading means going into our game the magic numbers drop to 13 and 14. With 7 games to go if we keep our 2pts/game form going we should make 2nd without much trouble.

Take the tick out of the Retrieve remote file and reference locally box and it works a treat.

There's only one thing worse than technology it's smartarses who understand technology.

Just bought a new printer. Various stages to setting it up.

    1. Buy printer and stare at box for 2-3 days.
    2. Open tape at top of box and take a vague look at instructions, then realise you are reading the greek version which actually makes as much sense.
    3. Leave to stew for another day.
    4. Remove printer from box and lay out on floor so you have to do it.
    5. Step over printer for 2 days.
    6. Finally have a stab and fail 3 times. Then lose temper, swear at it, and shove CD/DVD (?) in slot very very hard.
    7. Printer loads instantly as it realises who's boss.
    8. Appears ok.
    9. 5 hours later, wonder what blinking icon at bottom is. Open it...realise it hasn't finished and needs a gooby-do shoved in it's wotsit.
    10. Print what you wanted a week ago.

Most modern printers are compatible with whatever operating system is in place. I suspect you'd have only to plug the thing in, and the OS would have found an appropriate driver for it. Even Windows does a fair job nowadays. If it's an ink cartridge printer, the biggest problem is often just working out which way the cartridges plug in. That's where the instructions become useful. Sorry to be a smartarse. Being one did pay me a lot of money, in the past, so it has its moments of compensation. ;)

I did everything it said, but it just went on and on looking. I tried 3 times, giving it half an hour each time, then I finally beat it. I had to get a new one because my new computer would never connect with my old printer...tried for weeks with that one. As it wasn't dear in the first place, I replaced it but there were lots of stages to loading it, whereas I seem to remember my old printer loaded on my old computer without the slightest problem. New systems may be great with all the things they do, but people like me just want it to print when asked...the fact that it can print from an iphone I don't have is irrelevant.

I am not sure that i understand the OP. I look at it that we must score no more than 6 fewer points than 3rd place and we go up. This remain true right until the last 2 games of the season at which point it's impossible not to go up. Don't need an abacus to work that one. Or a slide rule.:)

I think, that the first to get the next 15 points wins.

Basically if we get 3, and they get 3 then the number required by us is 12. (those 3 points of theirs are 'lost'). If we get 1 and they get 1 then the number is still 12 as they haven't got 3 points. (stay with me). If they get 1 and we get 0 then the number is left 13 (15 - 3 + 1) as they dropped 2 points. If they get 3 and we get 0 then the number we need to get is still 15. If we get 3 and they get 1 then the number is 13 left (15 -3 + 1).

The bottom line is 5 wins gets us promoted - guaranteed, however every time they drop points out tally needed decreases.

    God I'm confused now!

The magic number is not 15.

    .............................

    Current Saints points: 78

    Current possible maximum for West Ham: 72 + 3 * 7 = 93
    Current possible maximum for Reading: 73 + 3 * 7 = 94

    Points needed to guarantee winning Championship: 17 (1 + 94 - 78 )

If West Ham beat Reading maximum points will be WH: 93, R: 91
If West Ham and Reading draw max points will be: WH: 91, R: 92
If West Ham lose to Reading max points will be: WH 90, R: 94

Thus beating 91 points will guarantee promotion.

    Points needed to guarantee promotion: 14 (1 + 91 - 78 )

(in reality our goal difference is probably worth another point but theoretically it is not relevant)
