Weve had two managers in recent years that werent far from getting us up, Blackwell losing play off final and Larry a seventh place finish yet they were both derided by a large section of fans. It seems the only manager that will satisfy some Leeds supporter will be the one that leads the team to 100 points, scoring 5 in every game, playing fantastic football with two wingers all recruited from the academy and locked into ten year contracts.
Larry for me was a big loss that sent us backwards ever since. Yes he loved the club but I had a problem with him not able to coach a defence. Since those days I've realised that maybe it was the culture at the club and the Bates factor that fooked everything up. Grayson was the best manager since Revie and is getting Preston promoted this season, and he knows how to feed a striker unlike Redders. Garner has 30 goals this season and now Beckford is scoring weekly too. Bring him home I say. Otherwise do we know another Dyche, Howe and what about the coach that Brentford are sacking, even if he gets them promoted. I think the days of us chasing a Bobby Robson, Keegan, Hoddle, Graham, Venables top name is gone. We need a reliable performer like Grayson or to gamble on a Howe type
We need someone in the mould of Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, very much his own man though so wouldn't last five minutes with Cellino
We need a player who had his best years in Manchester, was never good enough to get a regular England place, has no experience of management, coming to the end of his playing career If he doesn't get us to top of table after 10 games, Cellino can sack him and no harm done
Shaks/Forza record and stats show Larry had the best win ratio, but yes Wilko won the Prem just before it became the Prem, and best of all he gave us the much copied academy. However Larry's ratio is the best since Don's. The best time we've had as Leeds fans was in L1 and those 2 seasons saw us in the eyes of many away fans as being superstars. We had the massive -15 season where we rolled everyone over at the start and Larry took over and only just missed out, and then we had the promotion season and the emergence of White, BJ, Snods, Jonny, Casper and a baby Delph. We had the appeals that bates and Harvey fooked up, it was good down there. Since promotion we have shot ourselves, as we should have had back to back promotions with Southampton but Grayson wasn't given cash and after being top of the league on Xmas Eve we finished 7th, and then Grayson missed out again the following season through lack of cash ...
The season with the -15 point deduction was the season McAllister took over and we lost in the play offs. McAllister blooded both White and Delph, and was responsible for signing Snoddy, whilst Wise was responsible for giving Howson a chance and signing BJ. Grayson was a good manager but the squad he had in L1 was best in the league and promotion was the least he could've done. He did very well in the Championship too, to his credit, but was also responsible for some of the worst defeats I can remember (6-4 to Preston will never leave my mind). A good manager, definitely, but not a great one.
I agree with many comments on Grzyson - never got the defence working, with the talent in the squad he inherited he performed to expectations But he failed timately because he either did not know how to improve the squad to get us out of the championship, or he felt unable to stand up to / manoeuvre Bates into doing what was needed
I knew you'd say stats, I can't be arsed with them to honest. So you must be right. I just remember having the best time when Wilko was in charge and beating the scum to the proper tilte.......1st division champions.......
Ffs is he **** right! It's a bit easier winning games in the third and second divisions even though Redfearn makes it look nearly impossible. That's why Grayson won't ever be considered a great compared to sgt. those quoting win ratio stats go stick em up ur arse they ain't worth jackshit.
DO NOT START.......I was being sarcastic, I know DOC is wrong.............................I was saying Wilko was better than Grayson and Wilko was the best after Revie ..or are you looking for a fight'/
When I said he must be right, I wasn't agreeing, I was being sarcastic.....FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFSSSSSSSSSSSSS
