I was scared as hell on Saturday when Stoke were trying to salvage a point which would mean two dropped for Liverpool. If it was before, I am not convinced that Liverpool are going to get all the three points. We were able to hold on, and signs of good things to come. We must learn how to win ugly
The thing is we played very well, but we gave away a silly free-kick in the 88th minute, which led to a silly handball, which led to a penalty. I agree though, you have to be able to win when you're not playing well, Man Utd are the best at it and there success is built on that winning mentality, that's why there are big questions mark over Moyes, and that's what made Ferguson such a good manager. Is Rodgers that tactically savvy? We'll see.
too early to say it's improving. in the sense we would have in the past drawn or worst lost this type of game, from that aspect signs look good, but then when we lose games we should have won it even its self out. personally will see where we are at about xmas time as to whether we have improved enough. we created a lot of chances, and if it wasn't for the ruddy keeper could have bee a good score, if we can do that to all teams, then onwards and upwards
But we didn't 'win ugly'. We played some very attractive football and should have won by a far greater margin. Be(r)govic (gerrez) had a fantastic game.
it's far too early to talk about improvement. Let's face it we were lucky in the end not to throw it away. To that degree we haven't improved! We play well but make their goalie look like the greatest thing since sliced bread. The truth of the matter is that we are still not clinical enough in front of goal. Sure we create chance after chance after chance and it's all very exciting. But we wait and wait and wait for one of them to go in. When we do shoot we tend to shoot along the ground and out shots hit the goalie just as much as he saves them. Why oh why can't we learn to chip him? Why do we so rarely see our shots bulging the back of the net? Answer those questions and then just maybe we find an answer to the question why, when we do score, do we rarely go on to score the 2 or 3 more goals that our open play deserves. So, the simple answer so far is NO we are not improving.
If I grew up any more I'd be as old as you and I can't be having that. I thought you knew my sense of humour by now
I was disappointed we didnt have more than a one goal cushion after all our dominance. We do need to be more clinical but very early days, some teams were lethargic this weekend but im hoping the more we play and get the sharpness back we will be more clinical. Impressed with Sturridge given he didnt have pre season (bar a bit against Celtic I think)
Agree with you. But last season we got a draw at home in our first game of the season. (marked improving)
We also failed to beat Stoke, only picking up one point against them. Still... one game down, thirty-seven to go
That's a very big if Its good in principle as winning all nineteen home games would give us a 57pt platform. We only need to aim for five to six wins away from home for CL footy
