Thanks to Gordon Armstrong I had tickets to the game today. Our fans were brilliant start to finish. We all sang Howard Kendals name and got a standing ovation from the Everton fans. We did not stop singing all the way through the match. Even 6-2 down we made more noise than the home fans. Sunderland fans are some of the best in the world. We deserve better, we really do. I quite like big Sam and I think somehow he will keep us up.
Trouble is Vegas our fans have been doing this for decades with precious little in terms of success coming back from the club. I just wonder if the players appreciate the fans or don't they give a sh1t. I sometimes think sadly it's the latter.
It was the same in old 3rd division when we were all wondering how it had come to this. Nearly 30,000 at Roker for (I think) Northampton...
I know, I mean I have been going to the games for many years now but I have noticed over the last few years (mainly at home) we have been quieter than usual. Yesterday it was like being back to the good old days and I felt very proud to be there despite the result. My mate who came with me is a Forest fan and he was blown away by the atmosphere. I think the fans believe that Sam can keep us up and this is the start of a new era for the club. There is a belief and certainly the attacking players are buying into it and look much more confident in front of goal. The defence needs sorting out now and that is going to be almost mission impossible.
I always found home crowd atmosphere dodgy esp now all seated - atmosphere at Roker was always buzzing - esp in Fulwell End - freely move about to get good group and chants were better and memorable - fans were a more united base - now cannot always guarantee who sit next to - away fans have a common aim to support & chant mostly in one stand - at home tend to get too many floating fans quick too find fault - imo only - not being too critical of them - the best fans when things going well
