I think our defence is the best it has been in many years. We have players motivated and ready to get stuck in. They aren’t overly skillfull but they put a shift in and do the simple things so well.

Honestly, I think defenders at the top level are all very similar. Wes Morgan and Robert Huth have PL winners medals. I think it comes down primarily to coaching.

It's really mind boggling that Steve McClaren just sat on Laecelles all season the year we went down and never played him, and instead Saylor and Coloccini were guaranteed places for the whole of his time. It's alarming how much things improved as soon as those Benitez dumped those 2 clowns out of the team.

With Laecelles, Clark, Mbemba and Lejuerne, CBs are covered nicely, we're not fully equipped full back wise though, we really should've hung on to Anita, he was more than capable in the Prem.

Colo wouldn't get near the current side.

No change there then. He didn't get near the rest of our defense when he was playing save for one and a half seasons

We had mike ****ing Williamson for enough years so this is a nice improvement.
It is down to the compactness of Benitez teams though, defence has come first and the plans in attack have revolved around attacking set pieces. Rightly so mind, if you're in a relegation dogfight they're the things that save you, defence and attacking set pieces
