We have kept 20 clean sheets so far this season. The best in our league. We are the only team in our league not to have conceded 3 or more goals in a single game. We have conceded less goals throughout the season than any other club. We have our defence and keepers to thank for being still in this title challenge!
The defending's been fantastic all season. Loads of good examples of how to defend as a team, from front to back and real tenacity in our box, players actually flinging themselves all over the place to block shots.
Our defending was pretty good last season as well - we have a similar problem this season that we had last season and that is scoring goals
Well since this thread was made, we have kept another clean sheet. Thats 21 now. if we keep a clean sheet in our last 2 games then 23 clean sheets basically means keeping a clean for exactly half a season.
In fact, I just checked all leagues from Prem to confernence south/north and all Scotish leagues and the top leagues in Europe like Spain, Italy and Germany we have the joint highest clean sheets with 21. We share this acheivment with Shrewsbury of League 2 and MK Dons of league 1.
Amazing stat... remember Jim Eadie? He was our keeper when the team that year broke a record for clean sheets.
That was one of DC's masterstrokes of last summer - keeping our defence together. we only lost Smudger and we got a six figure sum for him. Now that our attack is more potent I'm quietly confident that we can do the business in the playoffs if we need to, bloody lottery though they are...
If the worst happens and I don't think it will with the same squad next season With Lines on board and possibly another striker we will walk this league
Looks like Eastleigh or FGR that we will face in the play offs if we end in the play offs. Whoever we get from these 2, we should worry because we havent beat them this season. Lost both home games and drew both away games. Then the final could be against Disley's Grimsby! If we do end in the play offs and get to the final, I hope we do face Grimsby because the atmosphere at Wembley would be amazing and surely would be a record attendance for the conference at Grimsby will no doubt bring a hell of a lot as well.
