If you looked at our fixtures at the beginning of the season, it was easy to tell where we'd be around this time. It was October before we had to play any of the top sides, so we were always likely to be higher than we should be up until then and then as has happened, drop like a stone.

The same is true of the second half of the season. We will start to rise up the table, but again our run in is an absolute mare.

The difference this time, hopefully will be we'll have added some more quality and make a better showing in the second half of the season.

I'm not so pessimistic about our run in. Yes, the teams look tough on paper but hopefully by that stage only the two Mancs will be in the running for the title and the top four are pretty much set in stone. The gap is already widening. Prefer to play top teams going through the motions with no expectation rather than scrapping points for our lives with teams at the bottom.

The commentator with Wilkins at Newcastle said Fulham only won 2 of their first 18 games with Hughes in charge...but turned it round after Christmas. Guess it depends on whether you're an optimist or pessimist what you take from that.
