Could be worse. Sunderland managed to knock 300 yards off their marathon route a few weeks ago owing to a 'marshalling error'. it was only a week later that they had to tell everyone that they had not completed a proper marathon after all. At least everyone knew the score here. Having said that, as a runner, I would have been pretty annoyed by the whole thing.
How the **** can you blame the council because of a breakdown on a bridge. Breakdowns do happen you know despite having a good planned maintainance programme in place. For this one I am on the council's side. At least they informed the organisers in time to arrange the diversion.
Wouldn't it be more useful to know who is responsible for the bridge that stuck over the council marina, rather than the ones over the River Hull that worked?
It seems stupid that they left it until the last minute to try to close the bridge! Geraghty is in the HDM talking about the pop-up squash court in an empty shop on Whitefriargate - mentions how he hopes it'll attract more kids to council leisure centres to take up the sport. No mention of the British Open and how it adds to Hull's City of Culture bid. I bet it wasn't even mentioned in the bid entry book out of spite - City probably get a passing reference.
