Our club lacks ambition

  1. I know i've already made a rant article about the wage cap, but i have again read that Barton has not signed a new contract. We should have just given Carroll what he wanted, and we should give Barton what he's worth. Who, i ask, who wants to come to this club and play for ****ing 35k?

This is how ****ing attractive our club is, and how ****ing ambiitious they are, we're thinking of signing ****ing Alialdiere... the guy that got 11 goals in 78 appearances for boro.

Why can't people ****ing see that everything isn't all sunshine and ****ing rainbows? Every club wants to believe they have a squad full of passionate players that would do anything for the club, but it's not like that. We have some cracking lads on our team, but we cannot expect them all to accept this wage cut. The fact that Mike Ashley blows millions away at the casino shows he could afford to get rid of the wage cut if he wanted.

Our only clubs ambition seems to be paying off debts, and to do that, they'd be willing to get rid of our best players and have us go back down into the championship and further into the ****. Just when the season gets perfect, the ****ers that own the club have to get rid of our brilliant manager, and sell one of our best player. Now they are showing that they obviously don't give a **** if our best player, Barton, leaves. Aslong as they shave their ****ing money.

Their plan was to seem loyal to the fans until we were near our target which was to survive, then they could do what ever the **** they wanted.

The problem is that's its not "our club". It's Mike Ashley's club and he'll do whatever he likes.

I don't even think our ambition is to pay debts, that's just our owners excuse for not reinvesting.

The ambition of the club is set by the owner, and his ambition is to take as much out of this club as he possibly can.

I agree with the first two posts, especially in light of what I heard last night (see my thread), the club do nothing but try to misslead the fans up the garden path at every given opportunity, in order to keep attendances up despite offloading our best players, raking in millions from the sales to the detriment of the team itself! I despair.......

Nobody is bigger than the club! "The name on the front of the shirt is more important than the one on the back" Erik Dornhelm ex Newcastle United Manager
Carroll thought he was bigger than the club demanding a new contract 3 months after signing a 5 year deal, Barton signing new contract next week.

Our ambition is to not get back into old habits which is being seen as a cash cow for 'big name' players.

There's plenty of quality available for £35kpw and at the moment we're looking to re-establish ourselves as a premier league team, increase revenue and get to a stage where we can JUSTIFY offering £50kpw+ wages (realistically fighting for Europe).

The reason we are 'targetting' Alialdiere (according to papers) is because of all the unsigned strikers around, he's probably one of the best. Still **** but we can't sign anyone else at this stage in the season. Even then it would only be on a contract til the end of the season, he's not the class of player we are looking to sign out of choice.

Barton said he was willing to take a paycut, a great stance of loyalty (even if it is just PR) so what would it look like if NUFC backed down and said, "actually, forget the wage cap, here's £60kpw!" Then everyone would be wanting a pay rise or handing in a transfer request.

I don't like MA but the wage cap is something we've needed for a long time, to avoid another Michael Owen.

Hit the nail on the head there mate.

I can see why you're annoyed RIP but haven't you learned the lessons of the not so distant past? Look at what happened with Martins, Viduka, Duff, Owen etc etc etc etc....... WE GOT RELEGATED! Players used to rub their hands together at the thought of playing for NUFC whereas lately we seem to attract real grafters, as opposed to mercenaries. We gave the likes of Allardyce and Souness stupendous amounts of money to spend and it nearly destroyed us. What we're going through is frustrating but we need to get used to it, it's still better than relegation/financial meltdown.

There's ambition, but although we have sold a prize asset so to speak, he was sold at a ridiculously inflated price, which by the summer we will have gotten a decent replacement lined up.

On the face of it, Carroll fooled all of us by stating his commitment to the club, we wouldn't have gotten a replacement in either because we would have thought the local lad was staying. Remember there is a lot of talent coming back from injury, and even though we have no world class striker(s), we still have quality in the form of Stephen Ireland, Ben Arfa, Dan Gosling etc coming back. We have enough to keep us going till summer.

was going to write a long reply but instead i'd like to thank modface for saying what i was going to say,as for bartons tash what exactly do you want fat freddy back? 6 mnths from oblivion, doing a leeds or worse, get in the real world.

there's a guy in Switzerland does great football finance blogs (http://swissramble.blogspot.com/) go read that barton and you'll see the state of some teams the days of stupid wages (apart from some teams man city etc.) are coming to an end some clubs just can't keep going down this route and as the rich clubs are restricted to squad size and throw in the home grown players rule I'd say there will be alot of players very happy to play for 35k
