Attendances in all our Championship seasons, courtesy of Rick Skelton. Quite a spike under Nigel Pearson's tenure... please log in to view this image
That's an artificial spike because of the two-year gap, though. It was presumably more a case of the 2009-10 PL fans sticking around, rather than a case of new fans flocking in to see Nigel. What was the 09/10 average?
17K is very low, especially off the back or a couple of seasons in the prem. Is it money, is it the Allams, or lack of atmosphere (sanitised football), or all?
But we don't have that artificial spike now. We've supposedly come down in better shape than last time with undoubtedly a better squad and better prospects yet much smaller crowds. I wonder why that is.
What I find interesting is that the attendance in each of the promotion seasons is lower than the two preceeding seasons. Why? Wouldn't you expect attendance to go up in years that we are chasing promotion?
So we're 164 down on our average for the last championship season, with far higher ticket prices this season. I think that proves any boycott is futile, effectless and miniscule. It looks like the boycott is limited to about 5 posters on here. Hats off, you've really dented the Allams personal fortune.
I think you need to compare the last championship season after we were relegated which is around 4000 less which is around £2 million for the season
As our current squad cost several times what any of our previous Championship squads cost, along with at least double the wages, I suspect he'd like the attendances to be a bit higher.
2009/10 PL 24390 2010/11 CH 21169 - 3221 ( 13.2%) reduction 2014/15 PL 23557 2015/16 CH 17205 -6352 (26,7%) reduction. a few more than your 5 posters!!
The increase in prices will have covered the drop in numbers. Particularly as there'll be the reduction in stewards and other staff to take into account.
I think promotion straight back to PL is required to justify current pricing. Attendances may rise if we are seen to have realistic chance of automatic promotion nearer Christmas, especially if half season passes go on sale and may be tempt back some who cant afford etc
I think it is better to compare like for like. 2011/12 2015/16 1 18907 19361 2 17797 16579 3 17295 16949 4 18311 16651 5 18305 16486 Total 90615 86026 Average 18123 17205 Difference between the first five games of the season per game 918
