Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias has confirmed Mike Ashley’s helicopter flight to the club training ground is a routine visit.
And he says Newcastle’s transfer business is done for this window.
Manager Alan Pardew has five new recruits, all from France, after suffering a humiliating home defeat to his former club Reading a fortnight ago.
Llambias welcomed Newcastle owner Ashley to the club training ground this morning. Ashley’s dramatic arrival had sparked rumours the club were about to spend again but Llambias is adamant all will be quiet on Tyneside today.

He said: 'Mike has come to say hello to the new recruits, welcome them to the club and see the rest of the team and the manager, so it is good that he has flown in today.
'We are absolutely done. It has been a very busy window for us and we are very delighted that we have those targets.
'Last time we had a lot of pressure on the last two days, too much pressure, that is not going to happen. Mike has come today to reassure everybody our crown jewels are all in place. And they are absolutely staying.'

 

You'd have thought that with all their money they could afford to pay some nubile young things to hold their crown jewels for them!

 

Would have preferred it if we got another striker in, but we've done well.

Another striker would have been nice but nothing to complain about as far as this window goes! Our best in a long time and I think even the most ardent Ashley haters would have to concede they've done a good job for once. After getting it so wrong in the summer its good they have shown some intent.

I think we're going to lose Santon next window. DT showed me a few videos, and it appears Mario Balotelli and Davide are best friends, and considering Santon was admired publicly by AC Milan, he might follow Mario over there

Might make sense considering we've signed Haidara and will have other options available by then

 

Be nice to hold onto our better players though and increase the size of the squad with talent, rather than making it one in and one out.

 

Yeah it's a shame that we've been thinking this for a while, we've had the bare-bones of great squad for a few seasons now. I mean Tiote and Santon leave and we're back to where we started.

I think survive this season, add a CB to replace Colo, a good winger, a good striker and a back-up striker and we could be a Champions League contending team so long as we don't suffer an injury crisis again. Maybe I'm deluded.

 

It seems to be a Geordie afflicition.
