there you go. I said it.
No I've not been smoking crack cocaine.
I am on a mix of Naproxen and Codeine though.
Apparently Mitrovic will be on Tyneside in the next day or two for a medical too.
I'm convinced it will be the best one yet under Mikey boy.
We will all bow down to Mike in reverence of him delivering on his word.
    My pet unicorn agrees too.

You not on that plane yet, Chippy?

There's only so many rooms in Malmaison that players can be booked into, you know!!!

No he's riding his unicorn there instead.

Although I don't think he's meant to sit on it quite like THAT, the poor unicorn, <yikes>

This is weird. I hadn't read this thread before posting on the other thread. Great minds think alike ACS. Fools seldom differ.

To be fair Twitter has been smashed the last 12 odd hours and I think there is movement. I dont know who it will be but I reckon our first signing will be today!

Twitter is full of fans calling the club all kinds of shirt for not signing lots of players yet.
I'd rather get 3-4 top players in than do the scattergun approach of getting 5-6 average ones. We've done that before.
Bigger deals for better players invariably take longer and I for one applaud the clubs ambition here.

I wouldn't start clapping until they actually sign someone better. Its hard to distinguish doing nothing and taking longer over bigger deals until the players start rolling in!

Right I take it back, Wijnaldum has been included in PSV's tour to switzerland which is stated on their official website

Charlie Austin is in QPR's pre-season tour of Italy, so if thats going to happen we might be waiting a few weeks

Mitrovic has been spotted arriving for training at anderlect so his not exactly in newcastle today

Maybe, just maybe if we are really lucky we might sign that league two striker from Northampton!

Ye of little faith. I have it on good authority from Baron Greenback that Penfold has engaged lookalikes for all of them to put potential rivals and journos off the scent. They're all coming and more.

We haven't put in any bids. Familiar pattern emerging. Not signing anyone because we can't get 'pound for pound' value.

Do people actually believe we won't sign anyone? I'm sorry but if so that is beyond ridiculous.

I reckon we will, maybe Wijnaldum (not a neccesary signing unless we lose sissoko) not Mitrovic who has refused a move to Nufc, not Austin and not anyone of any real notability. Having a paper think squad last year and letting 4 go we are tracing paper now. I can see Kemen going too, but in terms of the squad next year, i think we will have less players than last year and the quality won’t be as good either.

No I think everyone thinks we will sign someone. Even in the darkest days we have managed a loan signing or something.

At present though, and while I respect your right to be optimistic, the sensible money based on historical evidence, would be on us not doing enough and/or possibly paying for whatever we do manage to do with sales. I'm sure even an ardent supporter of the "this is a new dawn" camp like yourself would have to accept that until deeds tell us otherwise.

I'm hopeful but not convinced. If they (he) do screw this new coaching team over, then that will be disappointing but not entirely surprising.

What I think is that Charnley/Ashley have no realisation as to how far the club have fallen. Our only redeeming features was a solid fanbase and the ability to entertain (c.2002!!). Two years or more of utter garbage, which would not have escaped everyone's attention, plus fan revolts, dropping season ticket sales and general hatred will make any player of note think twice. So we've then gone out on this "let's buy good players" thing, led by the incomparable Charnley, and are now reeling from the fact no decent player wants to play for us. We have no backup plans, limited knowledge on players and still play hardball. I can see Wijnaldum replacing Cabaye at PSG, I can see Mitrovic at Roma or Porto, I can see Austin at Palace or Chelsea and I can see us continue to flounder.

Yes, we'll sign some players, but they will not be of this quality - we will be treated to more Anita's, more Riviere's. What I find laughable is - where does any optimism come from that we'll sign big? We have picked up the odd bargain - Cabaye, Debuchy, Janmaat, Sissoko. But not one of them were "stars" or household names. We spent a fair bit of cash on the hugely mediocre Cabella and the hugely useless Riviere. That's where we are now, arguably we wouldn't have even signed Cabella had we just come off the back of a near-relegation season. It makes no sense that big players would come here; the only logical reason is if they weren't "known" enough and fancied a move up the leagues. Like Sissoko. And we all see the kind of effort he puts in, he's not a player we need anymore.

Personally I think we're entirely reliant on no players, but our coaches. It will be at least a year before the club is back on a platform where better players might want to come. But we have a history of trying to do a deal, a history of buying quite poorly and I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone, even GCB, thinks this is all going to magically be different. There will be no new players going to the USA and that will give Charnley another fortnight's excuse to do fck all. Not because he doesn't WANT to sign Mitrovic or Wijnaldum, but because he simply isn't capable of doing what needs to be done to sell the club in its' current plight.

I mean, will anyone really be surprised if Saylor/Colo is the starting CB pairing come the start of the new season? Sickening though it is, we have to all admit it's more likely than any other, more ambitious scenario.
