Well, what a window that was! KM now has a terrific pool of players, with many talents, much experience, real personalities, all at his call for the tough 2nd half of this amazing season. A great training group with older wise birds helping the young; much needed cover for injuries; and, his usual rotation options. If ever there was a statement of intent at our Club, this is it! A spellbinding period of games to come, to show what we are capable of. I am more convinced than ever that we will get promoted. We have had our big wobble. Wait for the roar when Moore comes on at PR!
The sad thing is, we are in with a shout of promotion to the top flight, but we will never aspire to such greatness as the Norwich squad that once beat Bayern Munich.
I would just add as one who watched the famous sides of the 1970's & 80's, our team playing at their best level this last Sept & Oct would have given a very good account of themselves. I am thinking of Mills, Whymark, Viljoen, Muhren and co.
And if we are still at the races come April, I will drive 300 miles and meet any of you in your favourite pre match pub. We will make sure Spanish has given us his card details!
Nah, this side isn’t even as strong as Lyall’s side yet. They are capable of playing like the second half at Leicester but they are too frequently sloppy and wasteful and our success so far is built on hard work and not a huge deal of talent. Woolfy and Chappers are the only players who would get in that John Lyall side. If we get near challenging for Europe I think McKenna would be off to manage a giant so I don’t expect him to have a chance to build our best ever team but he might be up there with our best tacticians and coaches.
