This would suggest to me that Rovers may have won their court case as bad news would have been hidden away with a weekend break, just a theory but I just always thought that if it was announced on a Friday they had lost but any other day was a win? If as they say the parties do know already Higgs would be apoplectic with rage and no way would he hide it away if they had lost. http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/judgment-to-be-made-monday-morning-2538719.aspx
I feel sorry for them in a way. Just seen this from Calculus on OTIB, turned it up loud and couldn't help but laugh - http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/170789-sainsburys-v-blbr-matchday-thread/
Not suicidal, just very disappointed, as I'm sure you were when local idiots conspired to destroy your aspirations for Ashton Vale. Many of us were sympathetic when that happened to City as we saw the bigger picture that would benefit the wider city, as some of your colleagues are to us, but hey-ho it takes all sorts and if that's how you get your kicks, good luck to you.
Another blow for the city of Bristol's sporting ambitions and progress into the 21st century. Victory for a few NIMBYs and a few VERY well-paid lawyers. Its amazing that anything gets built/changed/improved in Bristol - unless its just sport that suffers (?) I am sure that an estate of houses would have been given the green light!
Bad day for The Gas - I take no pleasure in seeing this verdict at all. The new stadium would have been a great benefit to the Club, the city and to UWE. We had to settle for 2nd best and now the Gas are in the same boat.
A rubbish decision but in a city where common sense and doing the right things are alien to those in charge, who is really surprised ? Every time I drive past what is left of Filton aerodrome I shake my head for what should have been our true international airport with road and rail links already in place along and the longest runway for miles around. But the NIMBYS won that one as well.
i fail to see how Sainsburys not purchasing a site they do not want is bad for Bristol. Gloucester road will not go into decline due to not having yet another chain owned store. Bristol Rovers should have had a plan B. A more appropriate use for the Memorial can still be pursued, a use more in keeping with the intent of the Memorial ground itself.
Really? Forgetting all bias (which we naturally have), you can't see how it's bad for Bristol? The second largest sporting club in the city being turned down for a new stadium (which so often massively drives success). For the neutral Bristolian it's definitely a blow. Thankfully I'm not a neutral Bristolian.
I feel for the gas, another decision which is against the best interest of Bristol. Both us and them not getting brand new stadiums, pathetic comes to mind, imagine Liverpool,Manchester,Newcastle,The midlands clubs,The London clubs having this thrown at them. I have no idea why Sainsbury won and the Rovers lost, however that has cost the board a small fortune in costs. They should have tied up Sainsbury hook, line, and sinker. Bristol is held back by a small bunch of clowns i'm afraid.
Well you quite clearly haven't thought it through much. Which with your track record, Cliftonville, does not come as a huge surprise to me.
Why would Sainsburys taking over a prominent site like the Memorial which they do not want be good for that area? A look at Stokes Croft shows how land owners doing next to nothing, or nothing with buildings and sites they own is not beneficial for Bristol. Mr Higgs should have had a plan B to fill the funding gap. Bristolians might look at this and think so what you still have a very valuable asset to sell to somebody who wants the site.
I must say i'm not one of those that are overjoyed at the news, even though i well remember the Captain and his crew taking the p**s about the dog walkers, it seems there's always something that gets in the way of sport in Bristol, and this is no exception, i feel its a great shame for the gas, and all fans of football in our city.
What a load of old bollocks! You're lot couldn't have been more happy about it and until we started rebuilding our current ground you continued to give us **** for it. What comes around goes around and as per usual you lot come off worse for it.
I agree Shiny but for P49 who's a decent fellow. I've pinched this but sums it up and for CJS in particular : 'For all you G*s *****s that laughed in 82, who took their dog for a **** at Ashton Vale - go **** yourself'
And there was silly old me thinking you were all solely interested in the decisions that would benefit all of Bristol.
Complete disingenuous partisan rubbish. P49, myself and quite a few others supported BCFC when you were attempting to build on Ashton Vale; we signed petitions, and wrote on this very forum that we hoped you would defeat the Nimbys / Greens etc. Even Goebbels would be mighty impressed at your ability to rewrite history Shiny. And it's Your.
