City will not bid for him, personally think Brighton will be a good shout for him.He scores goals at championship level,we are seriously going into a different level now. Signings of this magnitude seem to be getting more and more.
Never pay 9 million, however he will score you goals and if it gets them promoted it will be well worth it
Exactly why you have to pay 9 million. Gray went to Burnley and took them into the Prem, and Gayle is currently doing likewise for Toon. Both were subjects of big cash offers from City, and both are showing why. Also, who would bet against Villa reaching the play-offs with a run of goals by the French kid ?
I'm not sure Hogan is as good as Gray, or worth that sort of money, but January time is a sellers market.
I suppose it depends where you want your football club to go. This is something SL has to decide, does he want city to bumble along in the championship, top end league one. This my friends is why top guys do not want to come here, they see no ambition by the club to move to the next level. If you had a top named and proven manager, with a good quality squad and a big fancy stadium "we now have " then it is a lot easier to bring these better players in. Really is decision time for SL are we always going to be a potential big club,or do we go for it. I was told the the stadium needs to be in place,so the revenue can be generated, well the stadium is in place,we now need a team on the pitch to attract the undoubted fan base out there into the stadium.
Thing is RR, this is where your perspective is warped by the headlines. Are you trying to say that we need to throw money at it? Because last time we did that, it didn't end well. You're insinuating that we need to be making these massive signings - but according to Sky Sports there's only been 6 transfers of £9m+ in this league, all by clubs much larger than us. In fact, I had a little gander on Soccerbase. If you take our record signing of Lee Tomlin for around £3.5m, and then look at the 9 clubs who have got promoted in the last three seasons, only 3 of them exceeded that fee in the season they got promoted. They are Norwich in 14/15 (£4.25m for Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe), and Burnley and Middlesbrough last season for Andre Gray and Jordan Rhodes (£9m each). Money does not guarantee success by any means. In fact, of the 5 biggest Championship signings prior to this season, only 2 of their teams got promoted.
Living close to Exeter, I have seen the emergence of Exeter Chiefs coming from a very poor pitch in a regional division to having a new and modern ground that is developing all the time. Whilst they are in the Premier league, which is the only league ever talked about, the conferencing facilities at the ground are in use daily and that is where the income comes from as opposed to the regular 10,000 or so that turn up once a fortnight. I see the same concept happening at AG. The conferencing facilities will be second to none and will attract from far and wide. Bristol Sport is becoming an empire of which BCFC is probably a loss making part of it.If we were in the Premier League, this would not doubt add a lot more revenue but to be honest,I dont think that a necessity to do this any time quickly by investing even more lump sums of money at it, is priority yet. I may be wrong of course as this is only how I see it, but I do accept that we are part of a business now and that the football club isn't priority No.1
Interesting facts above Rob, i always say you need a team to play as a unit, not a team of individuals, the problem is quality individuals are always going to cost a club, the hard part is integrating them into your side, and getting the maximum from them. Something LJ is struggling with Tammy and Lee. I still say with three or four quality signings this club could be a major force.
I think everyone was led to believe (as it turned out wrongly) that massive money signings brought you success. Plenty of teams have become unstuck by such theories, what you actually need are the right players to create a team. Leicester City the prime example. I personally think that's what LJ & Co are trying to do, doesn't always work out, sometimes I think you have to be a bit fortunate that all your players click at the same time. I'd rather we were looking for up and coming talented players that are hungry and wanting to stay, than the club sapping over rated players signing just for the ride and pay cheque.
We have supposedly plenty of up and coming players, however LJ does not see them as first team players.Andy Stockhausen summed it up,city need players for today not tomorrow in their present predicament.
I do quite a number of conferences ... Leeds Birmingham Villa usually have 1 or 2+ a week I know the delegates attending some of them often pay £200 + per day and you are talking 60 + attending besides what they pay the organisers pay more on top! co that equates to around £40k a week for 2 days, not a lot in the small picture but over a year is £1m + some are 3 or 4 days!
Brentford price Scott Hogan at £15 million - what Aston Villa paid Bristol City for Jonathan Kodjia Apparently better scoring ratio than Kodger.
They're having a laugh. It will show absolute desperation if anyone pays more than about £6m for him and I think that's overpriced.
You been asked this before. How would a nine million pound plus player and salary fit within BCFC? A FC that operates at a loss and is tens of millions in debt - A fact highlighted in the club's accounts. The redevelopment will not wipe that debt away in a season.
The worst part of the New Year's fantasy called the transfer window is that there are still clubs willing to pay the ridiculous sums of money asked. How does the transfer window rate against the consumer inflation rate - come on jgf.
