From Bristol Rovers website: Club Statement On Wycombe And Third Party Ownership Regulations It has come to the attention of Bristol Rovers FC that Wycombe Wanderers FC appear to have breached FA rules on Third Party Ownership. Itâs current Chairman, in giving evidence at a recent FA Disciplinary Hearing, appears to have admitted a serious breach in respect of the player, Matt Phillips (and possibly other players). The result of this led to Wycombe wrongfully obtaining a competitive advantage over Bristol Rovers. Without this, Wycombe rather than Bristol Rovers could have been relegated. Bristol Rovers were relegated merely on goal difference, and as the breach, if proven, would have almost certainly led to a points deduction, Bristol Rovers have instructed specialist sports lawyers together with Nick De Marco, a leading sports barrister, to draft and send a complaint to both The Football League and The Football Association. No problem for Matty or QPR, but interesting none the less. Shows what a deceitful **** Steve Hayes, former Chairboys owner, was/is. Got to feel for the fans and also the Wycombe Trust who took over from Hayes and pointed out the anomalies to the FA in the first place! Honesty may not be the best policy.
There's no way this can come out good, either they get away with it and rovers are screwed or they get relegated and the new owners and fans are screwed. I'd like to see it settled by a relegation playoff. I think that's the only fair way.
Bristol Rovers clutching at straws when they need to accept they were **** and went down deservedly. No doubt Norwich and Reading fans will be backing their cause.
