With the Betting Bank Competition and The Other Competition established (until they lose their appeal) as the Major Meeting Competitions, I'm now turning my thoughts towards something lighter for other meetings.

I don't know what would appeal so I'm suggesting a few possibles to see what interest there might be.

    The Saturday/Sunday/Weekend League.
A level stakes competition running over the rest of the season, or between 2 dates. Every Saturday/Sunday/Weekend you have £1000 to back on up to 4 horses in single win or ew bets with all winning bets calculated at SP.

The Flat/Jumps Season League. Same principal but £1000 Every Saturday to be used before the following Saturday

The Nap Selections League. One nap selection per day. Level stakes based (SP). Missed days regarded as break even. Could be run each month.

Just a few options. If you have any views on these or would like to suggest any others please comment below and at some point I'll set up a poll to test the interest.

Obviously nobody wants to be tied up in lots of competitions so it's a case of trying to establish just how many, how based and when.

    Thanks.

Ron i agree that people don;t want to be tied up in comps. The two comps you run for the festivals are good and members enjoy them.Regarding other comps i feel that a daily nap selection comp would go down well .because most people give their nap a day to the daily thread already so its no extra effort for the member, and no need for another comp thread, because you can take the naps straight from the daily thread.

We are all good tipsters on not606 in our own way, who enjoy racing and talking horses, and too many comps will cause alot of threads and stickies, that may push people away from the forum, nothing worse than trying to find the daily thread eg or something worthwhile to read through tons of comp threads and stickies.
Does not606 want to be original or does it want to be like all the other forums fighting for the same people. Comps and clicks scare members and potential members away, here we have a few comps for big events and a good group of persons who share their knowledge from favourite pin -up to redbull i say" why fix something when its not broken".
    Just my opinion IslanderPEI

That sounds like a good idea Islander. I've noticed we have too many stickies. I'm going to unstick comp threads where the day has passed and unstick/delete one or two others. Then when I see a daily thread up I'll stick that. I think I'm going to have to be careful where I stick things in future.

In regards stickies etc, I would suggest that when Ascot arrives (and cheltenham perhaps Aintree) that you have a little offshoot forum for previews and race by race discussion, leaving this forum free for the racing chat and usual points, and thus removing the stickies situation

Cheers Nass. I have asked if it would be possible to arrange for Categories within the forum so it can be better organised. I don't have the authority to do that but I'm going to ask if I can be given that authority for a limited time to get things organised.

I think too many categories would result in many not being visited. So (assuming we can) I was thinking (say):
    1. Today's Racing. For daily tips and discussion about the day's racing. Latest day "stuck"

    2. Major Meetings (? include associated competition(s). Latest meeting "stuck"

    3. Competitions/Quizzes

    4. General

Meanwhile let's see what it looks like when I've tidied it up a bit later.

I would just have the normal section and then a Major Meetings and also a competition section

I suppose I could have organised it better within the present functionality. I could have had just the one sticky thread for Royal Ascot which could have contained an index to anything related to Royal Ascot, leaving all the Royal Ascot posts "unstuck".

I have tidied it up a bit now so when Ascot is over it will be pretty much how you suggest ie

    Major meetings. None
Competitions. None visible as I can take the naps from the Daily thread. The latest Naps table no need to be "stuck" as it can have a link to it from the Daily thread. Or I could post the link weekly/monthly. And/or it could easily be found using the search facility or scrolling down to the latest link.

You can also "unstick" the cyclonic link too Ron. If anyone wants to have a read, they can just get off their bums. <laugh>

OK Cyc. I wasn't going to "unstick" your Masterpiece index but if you are happy with that I will do so. If you have any more just add them and that will bring it to the forefront.

Just had an idea as I'm typing.

I'll put the link on the Welcome thread and we can add any other links that we think might be interesting for new browsers.

Ron while walking my dog this evening i was thinking about comp ideas. Similar to the other ascot comp but with a different approach.
Pick 2 horses per race. One that you think will win ( horse a) and one that will loose ( horse b ).
    Points for horse A
    win 30
    second 20
    third 10
    Points for horse b
    Last 30
    2nd last 20
    3rd last 10
If your horse (a ) wins you get sp also.
If your horse (b) comes last you get sp also
If by chance you pick the first and last horse you get a bonus of, horse A sp x horse b sp. I think you would have to convert the sp's from fractional to decimal to make this easier to work out.
Not that i'm saying we need more comps, but it could be done on a sunday once a month when not much else is going on

Hi Islander. Thanks for giving it some thought. There are a few problems with the horse (b) idea.
    1. It doesn't require skill as many horses that have no chance of winning are eased.
    2. Some people do not not like the idea of selecting a horse to lose
    3. It would be difficult to operate as horses get pulled up, fall etc

If it wasn't for problem 2 we could have made horse (b) a lay. If it wins you get minus points equivalent to the win bet if it loses you get one point. I think we could try it out in a quiet period as a novelty comp and see how it goes. In fact the occasional novelty comp might not be a bad idea. <cheers>
